He is looking for a reaction from you that will tell him how you feel about the idea. So a, positive but light response would be good, something that shows that you are happy to know he's thinking about it but not that you are expecting it or pressuring him. Maybe a response like "Well, tell him we haven't really gotten that far yet, but we'll be sure to let him know if we make any plans!" or "Why, does he want to schedule a double wedding?" Good luck!

In all seriousness, he is just being playful. I guarantee you you hasn't actually thought about marriage yet. 10 months is pretty soon anyway.
Bottom line, guys love to joke around and that is what he's doing here. Not that you won't be married someday, just that he hasn't really thought about it at all yet. Plus, you mentioned he was talking to his buddy, and his buddy was the one who brought it up. That is another reason to know that it wasn't his idea.

My b/f has played around plenty of times, my mom always calls him my husband, and so does my sister. It never bothers him. He asks me to marry him all the time, but guess what!!!!! NO RING. 10 months? Try 29 months!!!!!! Talk about wanting to know if their freaking serious, or not. Just straight ask him!!!! If you're completely in love, then you must be completely comfortable... ask him what his intentions are!?!

Girl, that's a tough one. Somes guys will be kidding but most time "joking" is usually the truth but a cover up incase the reactions isn't a good one. So, i would just next time he does this i would say "yeah when are we getting marrier" and see what he does, kind of in a joking voice and kind of in a serious voice. This will let you see HIS reaction.
Good Luck!

i've been with my bf for 2 years now and people are always doing that to us.. asking us when were going to get married.. i am often referred to as his "wife" and he is often referred to as my "hubby"
we both just usually laugh it off and he'll say we can't get married yet as there are to many other weddings comming up :)
so just laugh it off i think and see what happens

Men aren't as subtle as women. When we earnestly wants to marry you, he will tell you so directly.

I would be cautious...but I'd be playful about it...don't be too serious just yet. See where things go.
