It appears to be for the same reason why some evangelical Christians boycotted the Harry Potter series. They think the subject poisons the minds of children.
It's complete and utter nonsense. With so many distraction like TV, video games and the internet....too see children are actually reading books is a wonderful thing.
The people who think 'Gnomes' and mystical storylines are the work of the devil are dumb as a rock

HA! They just don't like gnomes is all. This site is a fake- Bran's marketing people put it up to make fun of ridiculous boycotters. Read the articles- they're nonsense
