No, unless you're extremely limber I don't think you could check your cervix yourself.

I know you're tired of being pregnant. I know you're ready for this baby to come out, but be patient. It WILL happen. Let nature take it's course.

Here is the thing...dialation really doesn't tell you much. You can be 4 cm dialated for weeks before going into labor OR you can be not dialating at all and go into labor. Everyone is different. Personally, I never even had an internal exam for this reason...why have someone poking around in there for no reason? I also happen to think this is why so many women have premature rupture of the bag of water. Baby will come in his or her own time. That said, squatting is great for opening up the pelvis, so squat whenever you can.

Walking and squatting are common methods to try and make the labor process speed up a bit.

Twisting or pinching your nipples releases your own natural oxytocin. A few studies have found it to be effective in getting labor going within 72 hours if your cervix is already ripe, but the method has not been well studied. HOWEVER, nipple stimulation requires monitoring because it can sometimes cause prolonged contractions that could stress your baby and depress his heart rate.

Sexual intercourse helps too. Semen contains some prostaglandin and having an orgasm may stimulate a few contractions, but having sex won't induce labor.

If you're far enough along that the baby can be safely born... keep on walking. It will come when its time.
