When you think "transsexual," what's the first image that comes to your mind? What are your personal feelings regarding transsexuals?

Nothing negative comes to mind, if that's what you mean.
I love Lady Bunny, Amanda LePore and Miwa Akihiro.

Depends on the transsexual.

I am very sympathetic to the crap they have to go through.

I saw it first hand. My ex-bf was a transsexual. He started out a woman, transitioning while we were dating. He went through hell, not being able to find a unisex bathroom - and risking threats and injury if going into either a male or female only bathroom.

He endured a great deal of pain and financial hardship with the surgeries. He still isn't able to get the last (below the waist) surgery being it costs in excess of $80,000, and still doesn't give you functional parts but about half the time.

95% of married transsexuals lose their spouses because of the decision to transition, and only 1% maintain a sexual relationship with them.

Are you aware that 25% of men, who's mothers took the drug Diethyl-stilbestrone during the pregnancy, become transsexuals?

The first image that comes to mind are the people I have seen on the Maury Show who represent transsexuals-- and I feel sorry for them-- a small amount of the general population are transgendered, too, and it is truly heartbreaking to see them and hear their painful stories. Nobody can help how they were born.

The first image that comes to mind is of a beautiful woman, no offense to the FTMs out there. All of the ones that I know personally are very nice.

I just feel grateful that I'm not in their situation. I imagine it's quite painful emotionally and physically, too if they have surgery. This situation with the politician who has announced his/her upcoming surgery is a great example: hundreds of people who don't know him suddenly hate him! It's so unfortunate, and I wish we lived in a better world for them. The first thing that comes to mind is the trouble they face.

I think that they endure enough pain and anguish when in the wrong body. I think that they are exceptionally brave to face up to their condition and: to suffer the inquisitions of the psychiatrists; the requirements to dress as the gender they identify; to undergo major surgery; to have to face off (and sometimes lose) family and friends; to sometimes have to relocate in order to start their lives.

How do I feel about them? Every time I meet one, I am reminded of my amazement at what humankind will endure/undergo in order to be happy. So I am awed and encouraged that there are people who show such indomitable courage in getting to where they want to be.

As people, some I have liked others less so.

i am one, so i know what they are going thru. they have lived a long hard challenging and confusing life before transition, and they go thru hell physically and emotionally during the transition process.. and they deal with discrimination and mythological stereotypes from the superficial society we live in.

transsexuals are the most friendly, kind, understanding, loving and overall amazing people in the world.. they are my heros. they have gone thru the experience which i am about to embark on.. the friends i have have been so helpful and encouraging towards me..

I don't understand it. But I don't think a thing about them in general. I have not met many that I have gotten to know well so I really have no judgment so far. Sorry

The first thing that comes to mind is an emotionally disturbed person. Instead of being given the psychological help they need they are referred to a plastic surgeon in Thailand.
I think of them like clowns. They are happy and animated on the outside but on the inside they are tortured souls.
