The "Oh, God!" movies from the '70s ... George Burns played the part of God and John Denver was in the first movie of the series.
"Bruce Almighty" from 2003. Morgan Freeman played the part of God, and Jim Carrey played Bruce. There's a sequel coming out this summer, called "Evan Almighty." Morgan Freeman will be back as God and the other lead will be Steve Carell who plays Evan, Bruce's hapless co-worker from the first movie.

There have been a number of them; some of the better known or more recent ones (Dogma, Bruce Almighty, and the "Oh God" series) have already been mentioned. In a sense, God appears (if not exactly as a character) in "The Ten Commandments;" and as Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ," "The Greatest Story Ever Told," "The Last Temptation of Christ," and "Godspell." Sounds like you may be thinking of either "Dogma" where Alanis Morrissete played God, or "Bruce Almighty" where Morgan Freeman played God. OH, and "OH, God" with George Burns playing the Almighty.
