Does anyone think that this is related to the internet steroid investigation where a steeler doctor purchased $150,000 worth of Steroids and HGH last year?

or don't you think it was kind of curious how he came back from injuries so fast till they started the probe last year?

Please give thumbs and stars as appropriate.

Strictly business. Steelers needed to get under the cap and his salary was too much for them to handle.

If you know anything about the Steeler's you know that they don't pay linebackers when they get older. Plus his level of play dropped last year and he isn't worth the money that he will demand in the free agent market to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Some team will over pay for him. But the Steelers won't. He was probably due a bonus if he was on the roster past a certain date also. So they saved that money also.

It has nothing to do with the steroid probe. He wanted to be payed like a top NFL LB, and the Steelers couldn't afford to pay him that much. I think they are trying to get under the cap so they could pick up a key free agent where they need it, like Jamal Lewis. He would fit nicely in their running game, complimenting Fast Willie. Plus with the 15th pick in the 1st rnd, they can draft a pass rusher like Jarvis Moss. I think Mike Tomlin is gonna try and switch to the Tampa-2 defense anyway, to try and put more pressure on the QB to give their secondary a chance to make plays. Besides, they are deep in the linebacker position and James Harrison will fill in well at outside LB.

I believe this has nothing to do with it. There were talks before that Joey Porter was going to be released from the Steelers. I do know that they were upset at him because he made some outstanding plays but they were out-weighed by the huge plays he let develop in his area. All I know is that he is a great player and any team would be lucky to have him.

This is a result of the salary cap many key players will be released. The Titians are a good example of how the salary cap lost them key players.

God would you people get an EDUCATION. The DOCTOR was a TEAM DOCTOR. He wasn't buying them FOR THE TEAM. He was a DOCTOR as well. He works with UPMC(University of Pittsburgh Medical Center). Both the team and UPMC will be monitoring this situation. He didn't buy them for the team though. Nor did this have anything to do with Porter. Porter wanted more money. The team agrees basically he deserves it. They can afford to give it to him, so they are cutting him now to get back under the cap.

No i think it had to do with his pay. Pittsburgh sucks anyway, I have said it a thousand times the whole city sucks. Porter got released because of roster bonuses and money he was due to make. They can resign him of course.
