year 1900 = 38,000,000
year 1950 = 111,000,000
year 2000 = 515,000,000

what is the percent increase from 1900 to 2000? (round to the nearest tenth or tenth of a percent)

i got 18%, am i right?

Answer is 1355% increase from 1900 to 2000. prevoius poster has right numbers but forgot to move decimal to right to account for %. Remember when asked about percentage increase, if the number is doubled (76 million) that is a 100% increase. Anotherexample would be a 1000% increase would equal the amount 388 million. (38 * 100). Hope this helps.

Percentage increase = (pop. in 2000 - pop. in 1900) *100/pop in 1900

= (515 -38) x 10^ 6 *100/ 38 x 10^ 6= 1255.2% increase.

so you are not right.

515/38=13.55 the population increased by a factor of 13.55 or 1255%

100 % would have been 76 million total
