crazy. Although I empty my bags or canister frequently, my vacuums only seem to last a few months. I just got a Dirt Devil about 2 months ago and its suction is just horrible now. Can anyone recommend a vacuum for under $500 that will last? Thank you.

check the filters;look for clogs under the floor plate and the hose.
We have dogs and had the same problem, ended up buying a Rain-Bow vacuum, its more than $500,but it is also bagless. It traps the dirt in a water filled container below the unit. It is emptied each time you use it. The water also keeps the dust from being pushed back into the air. We have had this for 3 years and still love it. They are made by a company in Mi.

Dirt Devil vacuums just seem to be low quality. I have never liked those.
Kenmore makes a great vacuum. The ones that I have had are very high quality, last a long time, and the price is very reasonable.

Look, I had the same problem as you. I bought a Kirby vacuum and I am making payments on it. Now I had added the cost of the vacuums together and it was worth getting the Kirby because it come with a warranty that you can't beat. If it breaks they will fix it and if they can't fix it, I get a new one. I know it is more money than you intended on spending, it was for me to but it is a life saver. It also comes with a shampoo attachment that gets out all the old pet stains so I also saved money on replacing my carpet too.

I have 2 dogs also. At the end of the day I wonder how come they aren't bald with all of the fur on my hardwood floors! I have a Hoover wind tunnel that has lasted for years. It's bag less & has 3 air filters (I'm allergic to my dogs & dust). It works great! Its cleaned after EVERY use. If parts do break U can have them replaced (Hoover.com). I highly reccommend it .

I have a basset hound that sheds like crazy and I use a Dyson. I've had my Dyson for almost 3 years and the suction is still great. I love it!

They do make vacuums just for pet hair.
Try this website:
http://www.petvac.com/
The AKC recommends one by Oreck, but in the long run, you might just want to purchase the Dyson. All these people can't be wrong.

My mom has the Rainbow Vacuum cleaner and it is great...she has two cats and a dog and it has been working for almost fifteen years now...Imagine that.
It is expensive but really worth it.

Vacuum cleaners have better grammar. Inanimate objects do not have brains so they can not be 'stupid'. Buy a pet vac or clean the hoses and sweeper brushes.
