Seemed, to me, like a pretty sweet deal they signed with NBC three years back. What happened?

Were the ratings that poor to demote the league back off the network coverage? Or was it simply that ESPN/ABC offered better money?

Yeah, the ratings were terrible.

Well now that NBC has Sunday Night Football I don't think they really wanted it. I think NBC really picked it up just to make up for losing the NFL. Yeah I don't think it gets good enough ratings. I can't understand how people watch it. I mean I could see maybe AT the game(although I don't like their rules) but yeah I don't see watching it on TV. There is a local Indoor league where I am and yeah I have to admit it is great to GO to the game and watch, but not sure I could watch the game on TV. Although I got SCREWED out of the chance. Spike was SUPPOSED to show the Championship game the first year. Well hey my city was playing and it was here so I went and watched it. Now when Spike was going to show it from being there taping it I thought hey I'll watch it and see if it is watchable. Well I think the owner of the league at that time was part of the problem. As the idea was Spike would show games if they got good ratings on the Championship game and that fell apart totally. Anyway though I don't care for the rules of the Arena league and it makes it hard to watch. So maybe if they went more to NFL rules it would be easier to watch.

This is a pretty good question with an easy answer. NBC covered the league perfectly. But if you were in the leagues shoes, wouldn't you want ESPN to cover the games over NBC? ESPN has grown so much through out the years that it is insane. Plus they will go in depth with around the league scores and coverage. Sports Center will also break down the games and players that are in it. Because of this, the league will grow larger and more popular in years to come.

NBC finally learned how to deal with the pro leagues. They failed with the XFL and decided that the Arena League wasn't cutting it for them. So once the NFL gave them the green light to show NFL games, out the Arena league went.

I've tried watching the Arena league, every time I've falling asleep.

Seems NBC didn't want to make the committment at the same time as trying to get the Sunday night NFL package.....They did cite a ratings drop.

ESPN/ABC did purchase a Portion of the Leauge to keep it afloat along with the rights to televise the games...

I'll be at Sunday's NY Dragons Game......

the arena league is garbage and is barely watchable. the ratings had to have been abysmal. I live in L.A. home of the Avengers and don't even know who is on their team. The arena league is full of players that can't let go of the dream. There has only been one player in the history of the AFL to make a significant contribution to the NFL. He had a good 2 year run or so and that was it.
