Can everyone at least admit that it is a deeply personal issue and that, therefore, it should not involve the government on any level?
If not... can you point out any valid reason why it's any of your business whether a woman you don't know gives birth or not?

Good to know that all you "pro-life" people can't back up your position with anything but tired old rhetoric that does NOT win an argument.
Abortion is not murder.
An embryo is not a child.
Comparing abortion to crime is ridiculous, since it isn't one.
Try again. Please, I'm begging you, change my mind and make me believe that you have the right to decide whether or not I give birth.

Excellent point. I have always believed that the termination of a pregnancy was a matter for the parent/s and the medical authorities and absolutely no one else whatsoever.

I am pro-choice, and it is deeply personal, however...
I do see the reasons of the pro-life crowd...
The baby inside you is a life, a child, and abortion is killing that child. The baby born recently at 22 weeks that survived makes a strong case for the pro-lifers because women have abortions as late as that and later!
But it's inside a woman's body...she created it...it is part of her. Well, after the child is born, it is still her creation. Who's to say that a parent couldn't murder their child at any point?
What is different about a child's life, whether the child is still inside the mother or not? At what point does that life become "viable" enough to be considered murder? As soon as it's born? What's the difference in a baby just born and that same baby the day before inside the mother? Oh, the day before is too late in the pregnancy to have an abortion...but why? Because that life form inside you is alive enough to live on it's own outside the womb? Then lets go back to that baby born at 22 weeks.
They make a good point, those pro-lifers. . .

When a man beats his wife and kids or rapes a woman, that's a "personal" decision, too. However, one of the purposes of law is to protect innocent human beings from other human beings who would like to make "personal" decisions to harm them.
If you honestly think the embryo is not a child, you need to take a basic biology class. Before most women even know they are pregnant (just 3 weeks after conception), their baby's heart is already beating. Virtually no surgical abortions are committed before 6-7 weeks, at which point the child has tiny fingers and recordable brain waves. The average age of an aborted baby in America is 10 weeks. At 8 weeks, the child is fully-formed. All her organs are functioning. She can suck her thumb, and if her palm is pricked, she will open her mouth and pull her hand away. At 9 weeks, she will grasp an object placed in her palm. Educate yourself, please:

Some people actually care when innocent human beings are executed, regardless of their age, level of development, or environment (yes, even when the killing don't personally affect them). It's an issue of justice and human rights. The ONLY times in history when some human beings have been labeled "non-persons" have been when other human beings wanted to kill and subjugate them:

How do you feel defending one of this country's current genocides?
And by the way, I didn't vote for Bush and I encouraged others not to vote for him. I am 100% against the war in Iraq. I just happen to believe that ALL killing of innocent human beings is wrong.
Most people with your level of hostility against pro-lifers have been involved in an abortion at some point. I hope this isn't the case with you, but if it is, you need to stop projecting your anger and guilt at the people who would have been willing to help you.

I think it should be up to the woman, Even though I believe as soon as a child is concieved it deserves the right to live. But it is also sometimes better in the long run for the child. Why have the child be born then abused, or murdered by a parent who will blame their troubles on that child. And I heard maybe 1% should be aborted due to medical problems.

I think the seriousness of the matter is why people tend to get involved with something that doesn't directly affect them. Abortion is ending the life of what ultimately would become a person. It is killing. Same way liberals feel that killing a convicted murderer is wrong, so goes the thought process on abortion. If my neighbor is beating his children, that doesn't affect me, yet I would expect the police, child services, i.e. the govt. to get involved.

You are right it is a personal issue. My personal view on this issue is that if abortion is being used strictly for birth-control then it should not be legal. That is promoting irresponsibility. Health issues - rape then it should be a choice the woman makes -her (and possibly her partner) choice - after all it is her body & her health.

Do you think that homicide within a family is deeply personal and the government is not to get involved? One of the primary jobs of the government is to protect the innocent. It is not only a choice between a mother and her abortion mill operator. There is a little person involved here too, and NO abortion is safe for the baby. A lot of them arent even safe for the Mother-Would-Have-Been. If you dont want babies, keep your damned pants on! We are people with free will, not cats!

Blowing away a guy who rapes your wife is a personal issue. Somehow, the government sees it fit to prevent an individual from doing society a favor by ridding it of a threat. I do not necessarily agree with that.
The big difference here is that the unborn child is innocent and has done no wrong. One can live in denial for only so long. It is about time people started opening their eyes and stopped ignoring all available evidence. It amazes me that common sense is so rare and elusive for many.

Murder and rape are also deeply personal issues, along with assault and hate crimes. So, do we want the govt ignore those too? If you dont want a kid, use birth control. Condoms, pills (for the guy or girl), patches and even surgery are forms of birth control.

Thats the difference. Dems are for personal responsibility and want to make their own decisions.
Cons are for big government holding their hands.
