1. Native Americans of the Plains changed their way of life when they acquired the horse.
2. The Spanish established colonies in the Americas.
Which came first? To me, the answer choices are somewhat vague, but oh well.

Hey geniuses, the Spanish conquistadors came to the Americas way before they actually colonized it. So the guy below you was right, the horse was introduced before colonizations.
Next time do your research before bashing someone.

Try not to let the children bother you...
Colonies would have been established first. It would take a long time for explorers/adventurers to settle in and start breeding horses, and a while after that before enough horses escaped or were cheap enough to trade to the natives.
The Spaniards made very limited forays into the Plains area, and it would take many years for horses to reach those tribes in numbers sufficient to affect their lifestyle.

The sarcasm of some of the responders is uncalled for but the Spanish Colonies is the correct answer. Despite the fact that it took time to establish colonies the Spanish had functional, organized colonies early in the 16th century(1500's). The horse of the Plains Indians is believed to have come from strays from the herds of early explorers like Cornonado (1542), Desoto, and others is the Southwestern territories. It took time for these herds to grow and time for the Native Americans to acquire them. By that time the Spanish were fully established in the Americas. Their hold on North America was not too strong with the obvious exception of Mexico.

The Spanish had to establish Colonies before they could mass stock and stud horses.
Look at WW2 and the American Island hopping campaign. There you have to establish control over certain Islands before you can build Air Bases on them. Likewise you have to stabilize an area before you can farm horses there despite the fact that the Colony may have grown exponentially afterwords!
Moreover the Indians never had a War they won against the Spanish until the 1800s per se, so their acquiring European horses would have taken quite some time!
It should also be noted that Indians did in fact hunt Buffalo before acquiring horses which is the nomadic history of the Cheyenne being cousins to the Cherokee, horses just made it a hell of allot easier!

The natives were here first and when the Spanish came the natives got horses and changed their way of life. Then when the colonies came and in turn the white people all the natives became sub-humans and were murdered.
