So, my boyfriend's money had been burning a HUGE hole in his pocket for the past couple of weeks. Last week he bought a 56" TV for $1100, a stand for the TV to go on for $300, an Xbox 360 for $400, and a game for it for $60. Plus our anniversary was last Saturday and he bought me a diamond journey necklace for $200 (good boyfriend! good boyfriend!). However, when I say I'd like to get an iPod he says I shouldn't spend that much on something that all you can do is listen to music on and something we BOTH wouldn't be able to use. The only time I'll be using that Xbox is when Guitar Hero 2 comes out for it in April! What would you do in this situation if you were me?

I don't ASK if I can get an iPod, I tell him I would like to have one. Big difference!

He doesn't support me, I have my own job and make plenty of my own money. I could live on my own if I wanted and have no worries. These are just things he's been buying for himself the past few days because he "wants" them.

Oh, and I want to spend my own money on an iPod, not his.

I'm not too sure why some people on here think I'm a gold digger. I'm not! He bought these things because he wanted them! Not because I told him to! I didn't even tell him what to buy me for our anniversary! He did that on his own! I wasn't complaing about what he bought me for our anniversary, I think it's totally sweet because it was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me and I love him to death for it! I'm just saying, what would you do if you were in my situation and your boyfriend kept buying all this stuff and you wanted an iPod and he had negative feelings about it! Geez....

Ok, I left something out and one of the answers reminded me: He did ask if he could get the tv, but I wasn't feeling well that day and said "sure, as long as I don't have to cook tonight". He bought the tv. He asked if he could get the Xbox too, I said "you can get it for your birthday", since I'll be spending well over $400 for his birthday on March 12th. He said I told him he could get it in March, but I meant his BIRTHDAY in March so he bought it yesterday. We talk about buying things and he thinks an iPod would be a bad investment because he would never use it.

i just came from an anger management class and learned 4 steps for this type of thing....
1. tell him how you feel
2. "I understand your(his) point of view
3. This is my solution
4. Is that ok with you?

if not, go back to step 2, 3 and 4 until you both come to a comprimise!

Did he ask you if he should throw his money away on a tv or xbox? So why are you worried about how he tells you to spend your money? Or is it his money that you want to spend on a ipod? If he's the one with the money then sorry, he can spend it however he chooses and if he don't want to buy you a ipod then that is his choice. This is why I make my own money so no one can tell me what I can or cannot buy.

$300 on a TV stand, $200 for your anniversary?
His priorities seem a bit misplaced, or out of sync, at the least.
Assuming you were going to buy the iPod with your own money, go for it, it's none of his concern what you spend your own money on.
BTW, a "good boyfriend! good boyfriend!" would have known you wanted an iPod, and bought you one along with the necklace.

You are both having money matters. If he can spend over 2,000 dollars on gifts for himself and you, I hope that you are not planning a long relationship with him. It is great to spend money like that if you can be responsible for paying all the living expenses. If this is true then go ahead and spend and enjoy all the fun things in life. I can and I do.

If you really want the ipod talk to him about it. Try not to make a big problem of the situation.

Well, what I would do in this situation is hope that my boyfriend gets a cap on his spending otherwise he wouldn't make a very good husband. You would be homeless in no time!

Are you buying it with your money or his? If its yours it doesn't really matter what he thinks. If it's his then he does have some say and you should compromise on a device that does more like a Blackberry or PSP

Buy your own iPod.

I also notice how materialistic you come off by listing the prices of everything he bought - including your cheap necklace. Women like you give the rest of us nice girls a bad rap - buy your OWN stuff - wow what a concept!! You selfish gold digging brat.

maybe you should get a 2nd job (or just a job because you sound like you're being supported by your bf), have your own money and buy your own stuff
