I have a wonderful midwife and recently expressed my interest in a home birth. I don't want it in a hospital where sick people go, I always see things on the news about bacteria outbreaks in hospitals. and I know my house is very clean and big and my family can be downstairs making cups of tea for themselves, i can shower in my own shower etc.. has anyone had any experience with home birth? pros? cons? thank you

My friend did and she loved it. She liked being able to walk around and eat, watch tv, have iced tea to drink all of which you can't do in the hospital. A couple tips if you decide to do it, buy one set of cheap sheets that you won't care if they get ruined, a cheap top sheet and a shower curtain or a big piece of plastic. When it's time take off your sheets, put the cheap fitted sheet on first than the shower curtain/plastic to protect your mattress, the top sheet next for you to lay on and than the third sheet to cover yourself while you lay down. The only thing she didn't like was since it was home lots of people kept coming over unannounced unlike the hospital.

I loved my midwife for my two children, for me home birth is not a good idea as I had complications with my first.
second you need to make sure there are not problems with the blood between you and the baby, if there are do not have a home birth you might need fast medical attention, your midwife will give you this test and let you know.
third this is a personal choice but for me I would rather have a baby where I dont have to clean up the mess as long as you have a good health insurance I would still opt for someone else to clean up.

I wanted to have a home birth as well because i wanted to feel in control but in the end i would rather be in a place where i know that if there are complications youre with professionals, who know what theyre doing, for your babys sake. Of course you and your baby will be perfectly fine wherever you have it, it is definitely a personal choice. Oh also youre only there for a few days and it gave me time to be with my daughter, just the two of us before coming home and sharing her!

A home birth is a wonderful thing.I think more people would be more comfortable at home as long as you have a dula or a midwife at home with you to monitor you I think the experience would be priceless.I believe a mother would be more at home and comfortable with her own surroundings.Plus your family can be closer to you at home more than in a hospital.I have not had a home birth myself, but hopefully next time I will.Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a homebirth with my 4th child. To me it was much better then beingin the hospital. I was more hydrated, got to drink as much as i wanted, the midwife was wonderful as was her assistant. The whole process was VERY clean, they cleaned the whole bedroom and bathroom.
I was low risk so i had nothing to worry about, i took a hot shower for as long as i wanted which REALLY helped with pain control. My son was born with better apgar scales then my other 3 born with hospital births and drugs.
hope this helps!
Good luck with your hopefully homebirth.

I know when there are no complications and you are term it can be a wonderful experience.
However, you can not predict complications or your desire for pain control. Yes there sometimes are bacterial outbreaks in hospitals because many people in hospitals have reduced immunity. You and your baby will not have that problem. Practice good hand washing and you have reduced your chances of getting something by 80%.
