what we get is not true campaigning but character defamation of the other candidates. We the voters need to know what the heck the person intends to do while in office and not hear them eat the flesh of the opponents with all the bad and ugly stories of what they think that they know.

If no one voted, it would send a message that no one cares what the politicians do, or what happens to their country. That is all. VOTE! Find some candidate to support. Let them know you don't want negative politics by writing and calling their campaign offices. But don't give up your vote. Too many people gave their lives to you could have that right!!!

What we should do is not re-elect the incumbents.

I don't know if not voting at all is a good idea - or realistic.

You don't like what's going on? Don't vote for the same person term after term - and get the word out to vote for someone else.

Imagine what congress would be like if no one knew "how" it worked, if no one knew the "rules of the game." Imagine what could finally get done!

That is not how the people in power take a lack of turnout. It is either viewed as apathy, which politicians want, or a sign of approval of the status quo, which politicians also want. Either apathy or approval of the status quo means that politicians get to continue to do what they are doing now without having to answer to the electorate. If you want to send a message of change, you have to take an active part in the political process. You have to vote, you have to be involved in campaigns (either your own or another's). You have to communicate with your legislators. It is only through using our voices that we can affect change.

Real change emanates from people not just through the voting process. If people want change in the government, they address it through means. One of them is voting for the right people, but still, voting is mostly decided on the basis of who is the more popular, not outright on what he or she can do for the country.

Yes, that is a good idea if you are a liberal! Start a grassroots campaign to get you and all of your Libbie buddies not to vote! We conservatives ah, we'll do it to!

Exactly the opposite. If nobody voted that would tell the politicians that you don't want change.

If we all did what you suggested they would just pass a law that allows them to hold on for another term or 2, kind of like a "democratically elected dictatorship." OH wait we might be already there.

Hail Bush! (sarcasm intended)

Not only would we send the wrong message, you will never get everyone to not vote.

No, that would be totally stupid. We have had wars and people died so that you can vote. Silence never convinced anyone of anything.
