Yes I know about libritarians, independants, and greens, but obviously no one takes them seriously. Will we ever have more than a two party system?

You have an excellent point even though the days of freedom are long gone. People trade freedom for comfort and security. Possibly the fur trappers or "mountain men" were the only free people in our nation. We totally gave up our freedom with the establishment of a police force. Now we must play by the rules made mostly by the rich (ruling class) or face incarceration. The Dems and Reps are not really two party's anymore. Just look at the issues; Free Trade (killing the working class but supported by both sides), allowing illegals in to act as slave labor to the capitalist machine (supported by both sides and providing a finishing blow to the working class), tax cuts (don't support the working class, who cares if you get an extra $12.95 back when dividends are not taxed, once again the rich get richer). It goes on and on and the only answer, weak as it is, is to hang the political traitors that are in office and start over with a new bunch and less laws.

You haven't thought this concept through very clearly, but we DO have more than 2 parties to choose from, and all of the people involved in those parties take themselves and their agendas very seriously.
The beauty of the 2 Major Party system is that, as in our November elections, one party totally ousted the other.
Now, let's play "What If"--- what if there were 5 parties out there, and the vote was evenly split? That would mean that there would be no majority vote--- then what? Runoff elections after run-off elections?
It's like CableTV-- hundreds of channels dilute the quality of programming in general and none are real top-watched channels-- they get a million viewers here and a million there. When there are too many choices it gets stupid-- like all the cell phone choices out there.
I hope this makes some sort of sense to you.
And, by the way, I consider myself free-- I do not live in Haiti, Cuba, N. Korea, Libya, Sudan-- my mind is not being manipulated and controlled by mullahs and ayotollahs. In N Korea, citizens need permission to leave their home towns!!
So you think you have no freedom????

Think of it this way, if an animal is left in a cage it may consider itself imprisoned, whatever, (for the example only i k animals do not have this thought process) But if u take that same animal and place it in a large field...still fenced in but with a lot more room to do as he pleases it considers itself free. You are right we are not completely "free" having two political parties, but we are more free than those who have none..we have more freedoms to do what we want but we also have boundries. The belief is that the two political parties are opposites of each other so u believe in one or the other... and that the only other extreme is that u have no belief...maybe anarchy which our government is obviously against lol

3rd parties have done well in the past
Governors, Senators and congress have had several independent canditates win the electon.
If the right message is presented, a 3rd party candidate could pull an upset in a presidental election.
I see this happening in the next 20-30 years.
People are not getting the representation they want from either major party and if the right candiate is choosen I think they can win!

A third party has almost no chance to compete with the main 2. The 2 parties like it that way.

Actually our political system has combined both parties and we are just faced with one choice. It happened in Nazi Germany and it is happening here. Hitler held elections but had one name on the ballot... His Own name! Our national sovernity is being disolved and our nation taken apart bit by bit. Check out the websites in the source list. There is a war on for your mind!

Just like you said, there is already a 5 party system, and I think it works great, remember, it is the voters who choose, and of course how much money the canidates can raise for their run to an elected office.

Our country was designed for a two party system. However in each party there are different factions.
You vote for the candidate who you believe will best represent your interests.

Our system is set up for a two party system.
The fact that a candidate needs a majority to win, if you have 3 candidates, that majority is going to be almost impossible to get.

Freedom is not measured by the quantity of political parties in existence. LOL.

Even if this was true, those parties were not imposed on us. People chose to form them, chose to be involved with them, and people chose to support them.
