that "this is the greatest thing in the world and I found it" feeling. For me it happened a couple of times. First when the local radio station played "I Want To Hold Your Hand" by the Beatles for the first time and we were in my dads car hearing it. I was 5 years old and just flipped out when I heard that song.

The second was when I bought a record from England that just arrived at the record store I always hung out at. I bought it because I got one record free with every 5 records since I bought about 10 records every week and the cover looked cool. It was the first record by Queen and no one had heard it yet that I knew so they seemed like "my" discovery and that made them even better to me

Has this happened to you? With which bands and songs?

The first time I heard the song Street Spirit by Radiohead I was in a music store and just instantly loved the song. I hadn't heard of them till then so I didn't know what band it was. I walked up to one of the guys who worked there and said "What am I listening to?" and then bought the album right away.

Another one was Tori Amos. I was flipping channels one day and the video for the song "crucify" came on. I play the piano too and I was just in awe of her talent and voice. It was love at first listen!

When I was young, I never cared that much about music. i bought some pop CDs now and then, but mostly just let the radio dictate which bands were "good". I dismissed my parent's music as irrelevant and listened to whatever my older brother liked.
Then I turned 13. I realized that the pop-punk stuff they were overplaying on the radio was crap, and I was tired of it. I wanted something new. I had no idea where to start to look for something original though. Then I remembered a band called The Who that my dad played all the time. One of the very first songs I remembered listening to and enjoying was "Boris The Spider" when I was about five. I found the CD, listened to it, and it was pretty much the greatest thing I had ever heard. Here was a band that was incredible and original and better than anything i had ever heard in my life.
Now, years afterward, The Who is still my favorite band and a lot of my musical library is from the 60s or 70s.

What a fun question! I have too many answers for this forum, though. :-) Some of the most important and special music for my life has been: Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, "Is This Love" by Bob Marley, The Radiohead album, "Kid A", Anything by Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, The Marvin Gaye album, "Midnight Love", anything by the Eagles. I could go on....

i can't find something with more meaning towards a life experience, but the first concert i went to alone, unsupervised, whatever you want to call it, was def leppard. it was the pyromania tour. they opened with 'rock till you drop.' i must admit that at that particular moment i was mesmerized. the energy surrounding me, coupled with the loud music certainly made an impression to the point that i always recall that moment whenever i hear it. sort of gives me chills. it's only that song tho, and i am grateful that it isn't hackneyed like all their other songs.

i mean when you hear the first two notes 'DUN DUN' from the guitars, it's like, WOW!!!

The first song i heard that got me into music properly was SEBASTIAN by Cockney Rebel.
The song sent shivers up my spine as I tried to hear it on an old radio - listening to radio Luxembourg, long ago and far away!

The counting crows in 1994- their song "Mr.Jones" was awesome and to this day it makes me think of the summertime and how carefree I was that summer when I was only 12.

I was born 10 years after the Beatles broke up, and all that music had the same effect on me. I was actually born the day John Lennon was killed. I might be his reincarnation.
