No there not THAT delicate. It seems that DELL has been moving away from quality and dumping some real crap on consumers. DELL stuff seems to die soon after the warranty is up. Start complaining to Dell now and be persistent. I called constantly and was able to get a defective HD replaced in the 13th month.

No most printers are not the fragile, however you bought a cheap printer. Dells are not durable printers. You get what you pay for unfortunately.

Sorry that did sound harsh, however dell printers (and lexmark the maker of Dell) do not make printers well suited to heavy or eve regular use. The only way you get a decent life out of them is if you only print one page per week and rarely use the other functions. That and the cartridges are extremely overpriced and hard to come by.

They should last longer than 12 months unless used excessively to extreme. Standard Dell warranty is for 12 months... unless you took out extended. Dell are usually quality for pcs but printers from any company can sometimes break for little reason I found - a Lexmark of mine (bought from Dell) clonked out last year with nothing obviously wrong.

I trust you've tried the usual.... unplugging it from power... checking the paper feed and rollers for jams or obstructions, checking for debris in the printer (hold firmly and turn it upside down to shake out anything that may have slipped in like a paperclip), restaring pc ect.

The sale of goods act states that goods should be fit for the purpose intended and irrespective of the guarentee they should be of durable quality for the designated task.
If you have used the goods in accordence with the manufacturers instructions and not abused or used them for 24hrs a day. Then strongly complain to Dell by letter and send a copy to your local Trading Standards officer. Don't be fobbed off. Fight for you rights.
