One of the BEST series in this genre would have to be the SAW series. Whereas the other movies rely on evil impossible to kill villians brutally slashing teens and others, SAW was a psychological thriller that just happened to use brutal killings and gore. The brutal killings were just a small PART of the plot in the SAW series. What make the SAW series so good is that it actually has a plot and a storyline and kept you on your toes. You dont know whats going to happen until it does. Very suspensful and interesting. Its not just another "teens having sex in the woods before they get killed" slasher movie.
"Nightmare On Elm Street" (the first few) are OK but they got stupid after a while so get the first one or two only. "Scream" was interesting, not sure if you want to get the series.
Texas Chainsaw and Friday the 13th (please dont get series as the later ones got stupid) are also notables for people who enjoy this type of film.

I think if you want the full slasher movie experience you gotta go from the 70,s on up here are some good ones to watch.
Halloween, the original Texas chainsaw massacre, Tourist trap
is one I would really recommend.
80's New york ripper, my bloody valentine,Motel hell ,hell night
Humongous,The prowler,
90's /2002's American psycho,The cell House of 1000 corpses,
the devils rejects,.
There are many more out there but these should be easy to find.

Actually there is a movie called Freakshow, that is banned in 43 countries. It's pretty dumb until the last 20 minutes, then it's ridiculuosly gory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you can't stand watching things happen to kids, then don't watch this!!
