-about how much did you get paid (i realize ever school district is different)

-about how often were you called to sub (i know it all varies)

-if you turned them down, was there a fear that they wouldn't call as much??

also, could you tell me any other pertinent info about your experience with substitute teaching? thanks.

i am looking for a p/t job that is pretty consistent, but flexible enough that if i need a certain day off then i can just say "sorry, i can't today". make sense??

thanks!

The pay varies. I made 95-120 a day depending on the district.

I was called every day. Districts with computer based sub systems will not punish you for refusing jobs. People based districts won't if they know ahead of time what your expected schedule is.

If you want to be a teacher, subbing is usually the only way to really get a job. However, you have to take it serious and go above and beyond. One mistake as a sub, and your career could be over in that district.

I substitute taught and got paid $75.00 a day. Getting called really depends on the school district. In a "good" district, you might not get calls everyday. You will have to work harder at getting your name out there and giving your number to teachers or the front office to call you. In "not-so-good" districts where the population of kids tend to be very difficult to manage, you might get called everyday and you can pick and choose your jobs.

Generally speaking, you most likely will be able to get a job just about everyday. It IS a great job when it comes to picking and choosing what day you want to work. Also, it is nice because you always have evenings, weekends and holidays off. The downside is that unless you work in the same school everyday, each day you are in a new situation where you don't know anybody.

The rate, as you said, varies from district to district and from area to area. Here in Pennsylvania where I live, the rate is $75/day. It depends on what subjects you are willing to substitute for that determines how often they'll call you. And no, if you refuse an assignment, it does NOT mean that they won't call you again.

Hope that helps.
