I am not trying to seek any "pain and suffering" damages. Only medical bills. There was a sugar spill in the grocery store. I slipped, sprained my ankle, cut on my knee, and left sciattica nerve damage to the left side of my back. The grocery store has denied any liability or negligence. What should I do? Small claims may get my medical bills paid but I am afraid of even taking it there. They are a big company and I have called around 18 lawyers. None of them want the case. Hard to prove they say. Can anyone give me any advice?

I need a bit more info -- did the store 'exam' you immediately after it happened? Did they assess the spilled sugar situation, or did you contact them after the fact?

Major chains have reports of incidents like yours on a daily basis - if you let someone know as soon as it happened (like, while you are on the floor) and they saw you and the condition of the floor, they should have filed an incident report right then and insisted on you going to the doctor to be checked out.

Something about your story just doesn't add up.......

You need an attorney. You should contact one right away. My sister got hit once in the stomach with a cart while pregnant, and her attorney got her medical bills and then some paid. Dont let this go, you can and most likly win your case in court if you have an attorney.

It is hard to prove because you don't know if it was a customer, such as yourself, who dropped the sugar and failed to report the spill...probably because they didn't want to pay for it. You don't know if it just happened before you fell, so it's not necessarily negligence. If 18 lawyers don't want the case, I would rethink your stance on the issue.

you slipped; you were negligent (you weren't watching out) I know that wasn't what you wanted to hear but unfortutely thats the reason the store denies liability and no lawyer will take it Sorry

Take them to small claims court. You don't need a lawyer for that. Chances are when they get the summons, they will settle out of court with you.

small claims is where you want to be. here is why? huge upside, and besides you are a liar. if you lose you are in no worse position then you are now. if you win you appeal to a higher court. pain and suffering, small tissue injury etc... liar

Ahh, poor baby. Put down the pot, quit being a liberal hippie, and get a job and maybe you could cover the medical costs.
