Sociology books will help

its constructed through ideas we are brought up with (socialisation)-boys are told-big boys don't cry, girls are allowed to cry, taught to be lovig caring etc....they are gender stereotpyed

clothes they wear, toys they play with in childhood, jobs that are shown to be male or female etc.

you could also talk about conditions such as hermaphraditism-born with no genitalia- so we basically construct what sex the child is and its the same for other conditions babies are born with.

Sociology books are your best bet i'd say.

your question is too broad. what do you mean by "critically constructed"? By whom/what?
if you're asking if gender roles are socially constructed like I think, then the answer is yes. From a religious AND atheist view, we can recall all the arguments for men to be the "provider" while women were expected to be "defenders of morality in the home".

try looking up the history of feminism on google/wikipedia.

Presumably you adhere to the outdated and idiotic notion that gender is a construct of society and nothing to do with heredity. Any sort of intelligent observation of people should disabuse you of this heresy. This is just feminist kneejerk dogma and is based on feminisms sexual anxieties about Men, who they are and why feminists do not like them. Grow up and smell the coffee.
