Throughout my pregnancy, my blood pressure has been 105-110/60. A week ago my bp was 125/70. I was working full time and noticed an increase in swelling in my hands and feet, so while at work, I took my BP it was 153/95, I called the Dr., and went for a non stress test. I was ordered to be on bed rest over the weekend and not work anymore, which I wasn't financially ready to hear. I have an appointment to see my doctor again in 3 days, Monday. I am just wondering if he will want to induce labor sooner than my due date in 19 days. What are your opinions and experiences?

There is a good chance that you might be induced early. I also had normal blood pressure in the beginning of my pregnancy and towards the end it just shot up. It got to be about 152/95 so they induced me because it's dangerous to both baby and mother! But I wish you good luck on everything! Im sure if you're doctor induces you, he has yours and your babies best interest in mind!

And congrats btw!

I had pretty much the same experience as you. My bp went up at about 35-36 wks. At 37.5 wks I was sent to the hospital for monitoring but was sent home on bedrest. They were going to schedule an induction for a week later and keep monitoring me closely. 4 days later, at 38 wks exactly, my bp was 160/100 with protein in my urine and swelling. This was now full-blown pre-eclampsia, and at that point they sent me to the hospital to be induced, but I went into active labor on my own while I was in triage waiting for a room to be available.

It all depends on the doctor, but if your bp is still high but you're not spilling protein then they might give you bp meds and have you continue the bedrest for another week or two. But if you have developed pre-eclampsia then they're probably going to induce. 37 wks is still full-term so the baby will be fine, just a little smaller maybe. There's more risk to you and the baby to continue the pregnancy if pre-e is involved. Right before I got my epidural, my bp was up to 220/120! I was pretty freaked out!

My daughter was born at exactly 38 wks, weighed 4lb 15oz, and was 18" long. She was an unusual case, most 38 wk babies are bigger than that. My son was born at 39 wks and was 7lb 4oz.

Good luck, whatever the outcome!

Sometimes just taking a little time off is enough to help. But if your blood pressure is still elevated, then your dr might want to induce. I have had Eclampsia with most of my pregnancies. I have had seizures from my blood pressure being so high(220/147 was my highest reading) 19 days early isnt that much, your baby would be fine. Sometimes its better to take the baby a little early, the complications from high BP can be devastating. Keep your appt with your dr and discuss your concerns.

They may, but there are other reasons for inducing besides high blood pressure. With my daughter I went in for a regular check up. Only to find that they was going to induce at 34 weeks because my BP was 160/120 and I had protein in my urine along with the swelling.. I was in danger and so was my unborn child.. Take it easy and listen to what your doctor has to say.. If he tells you to stay in bed with only getting up to go to the restroom then do just that... Having to be induced because of your BP and other things is not the best feeling.. Just take everything at a slow pace and see what the doctor has to say on Monday.. Best of Luck and Congratulations on the Baby....

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

i was induced at 37 wks. my bp was high, and my heart rate too. they tested my urine for protein, and realized that i had Preeclampsia. i also had swelling on my hands and especially feet. and was suffering from migranes. now, if you have preeclampsia, they might just put you on bedrest til the end of the term. but if they see that your blood pressure is still high, accompanied by headaches they might induce you. its not all that bad. after 37 wks, its still considered full term. and everything is going to go back to normal after you give birth. if it doesnt, thats when you should see a doc. but if its preeclampsia, they will induce and the meds magnisium is wat they will put you on. its the worse feeling to get on that, but during time, you wont feel it anymore. i no how hard it is to not be financially ready to hear to stop working, but your health and your child depends on that. if they induced, it might be the best thing for the both of you. i was so tired on being on bed rest, and going to the doc all the time. but they realized after i gave birth, that i had a thyroid problem and thats y my blood pressure was so high. so ask your doc about checking that. good luck.

I have 3 children and with my 3rd I started having high blood pressure around 32 weeks. They had me doing non-stress tests twice a week. As far as induction it will depend on whether they can regulate your blood pressure or not. My son was born at 36 weeks so I never got to that point. They were however planning on inducing me by 39 weeks given all was going well and my blood pressure was not climbing.

Congratulations! Happy birthing!

I was induced at 39 weeks for high blood pressure and my kidneys and liver were shutting down...this was after being on bed rest for 4 weeks. After 38 weeks a baby is considered full term. They may just ask you if you want to be induced.

Sounds like you may have preeclampsia. I bet that if your bp is still high on Monday, they will induce. Have a bag ready and stay off of your feet for this weekend. Good Luck. Your baby will be fine, it is full term at this point.

If bedrest and meds don't help the bp, they may induce, simply because it puts you in danger for a stroke. Your baby would do fine if delivered now. I had preeclampsia and was scheduled for induction (but I had twins too) but the girls came on their own. Best of luck to you. Try not to worry, it will only raise your bp and STAY IN BED!!! lol
