Yes it will heal up fairly quickly if taken out. A couple of my friends have had cartilage piercings and taken them out to heal and I cant even tell they were ever there. A good way to convince your mom is to show her how much you want it by researching on the care you'll be doing to make sure it heals properly and show her how responsible you will be in taking care of it. Cartilage piercings are not the same as ear lobe piercings. They take time and effort to heal. You will not be able to sleep on that side, you should never talk on the phone using that side, and you should NEVER touch it unless you have just washed your hands very very well as cartilage can get infected very easily. Pretty much dont ever let anything touch it until its healed. You will have to wash it with antibacterial soap twice daily (preferably the soap/Provon they sell) and you may need to soak it in sea salt water 2-3 times daily depending on how well it heals. There is a chance it could get infected if its not taken care of or that scar tissue or keltoids can form (if taken care of and pierced by a professional that should not happen). A cartilage piercing can take 2-6 months to fully heal and will hurt for quite a while when they get bumped. Are you prepared to take care of it? Show your mom what you've learned and that you are serious about it. Good luck!

If the piercing is done in the wrong spot it will never heal. I have one, it's halfway up my right ear, I've had it for almost 2 years and I can't leave an earring out of it overnight, if even half the day because it will start to close up. However, my other ear is fine. I think the reason is because it must have hit a nerve or a vein as the right one is a tiny bit higher.

Also the cartilage takes 4-6 months to heal. Some people will say 2-3 months, but this isn't nearly enough. So if you take the earring out anytime durring the healing process and leave it out, it will close up. Sooner if you haven't had it that long and a few hours to a couple days if it's been a few months.

Do Cartilage Piercings Close Up

OK,< so here is what I did. I got my cartilage peirced when I was 15 (I am 22 now) ...it closes up very soon after taking it out, so you HAVE to leave somehting in it when you are around your mom. I took an post earing and cut the jewel off of it with wire cutters. Using just the post, I made it long enough to fit thorugh the piercing without sticking out the front and the back. When I was at school, I put the ring in it, and when I was at home, I used the post from the cut earing to keep the hole open. My mom didn't find out til I wore an earing in it when I was like 19.

It will close up pretty soon after you have it done if you don't keep an earring in it. However once you wear an earring in it for about a year it will take a long time to grow up. I've had mine since I was 17 (I'm 23 now) and haven't worn an earring for about the past 4 years but I can still put one through it.

Cartilidge is semi-bone and won't heal up. However, the skin around the piercing will close up. As long as you take care of it and keep it from getting infected, you'll just have a tiny indentation from where the piercing was. Make sure you go to a professional and not get it done with a piercing gun! http://www.namaii.com/suck/

All piercings will close up if the ring is left out long enough.
I say if you are under 18, you should respect your mom's opinion.
No mother wants to see their child "disfigured". If you're mature in your approach, maybe she will change her mind. And you have to be ready to take care of it.
I just went out a got my nose pierced, but I was 21 lol.
My mom still almost killed me

The hole will close but it will leave a noticeable scar. Not exactly attractive. You just have to think if it's something that you really want or just an impulse you'll regret 10-20 years from now. I think that's the reason why your mom won't let you get it. She's just trying to reason.
