I'm trying to figure out what my most fertile days are according to the day blood flow begins.

For instance, if I blood flow starts on the 3rd of March, what most likely were/will be my most fertile days? A few days before? A week after flow ends?

Help! And thanks : )

You're most fertile when you ovulate, so you're most likely to get pregnant if you have sex on the day you ovulate and the 5 days prior. The average time of ovulation is 2 weeks prior to the first day of your period, so if you run on a standard 28 day cycle, your most fertile period would be March 12-17. If you're not a standard 28, then adjust your predicted ovulation to 2 wks before you expect your next period. You're also more likely to get pregnant if you orgasm after sex, but not before because if you do it makes your vaginal region more acidic, which makes things more difficult for the sperm. However, having an orgasm after the male has ejaculated actually helps the sperm.

This varies from woman to woman. Most women ovulate around day 14 following the first day of their last menstrual period, but not all do. I ovulate between days 16-18, and I've heard of women who ovulate as early as five days following the beginning of their period or as late as 25 days!

Many people use ovulation predictor kits, which you can buy in your local drug store. These work much like pregnancy test--you dip the stick in your urine and wait for the results.

I personally had good results with charting basal temperature. Each morning before you get out of bed, you take your temperature (I took mine orally, but it is more accurate if you take it vaginally. There are thermometers designed specifically for this that you can pick up for less than $20). Your body temperature rises slightly when you ovulate, so when you have that slight temp increase, you are most likely fertile.

I hope that's helpful. Good luck!

You can really only get pregnant on your ovulation day, but since sperm can live in your body for up to 5 days, you are fertile for 5 days before you actually ovulate. Your ovulation causes your period if your egg is not fertilized. The number of days it takes your ovulation to cause your period is different for each woman, but is typically 14 days. You can determine when you ovulate within your cycle by charting your BBT. Register for a free online ovulation calendar (http://www.fertilitygal.com is what I use) so you can visualize when you are most fertile. http://www.fertilitygal.com also has a printable BBT chart with instructions on determining when you ovulate. Good Luck!

Your most fertile days happen when you ovulate. Ovulation happens ten to sixteen days before you menstruate. The luteal phase (the time between ovulaton and menstruation) is consistent for most women-even if you have an irregular cycle, you generally ovulate the same number of days before your period each month. In other words, if your luteal phase is normally ten days, and you have a ten day cycle, you'll ovulate on day 18, but suppose one month, your cycle is late...you'll still probably ovulate ten days before your period, even if your period comes on day 40.
