You could get moralistic about it.
In that case, I can not think of many pros, considering the fate of the native american, plus untold acres of land tied up for farming, locking out whatever was living there before.
However, being simply emperical:
1. The Transcontinental Railway.
2. Expansion of access to natural resources
3. The gradual development of communication and transportation infrastructure that now includes nationwide telephone/cellular networks (no to mention cable) and a system of roads that has developed into the Interstate Highways.
All three of these have served to connect a continent, making North America a smaller place and expanding opportunities for millions of people and businesses.
American free enterprise would likely never have flourished without the benefit of this inexorable push westward.
