I bought a custom computer from Ebay.
You know barebones style, with a few extras.

Anyway, so I just bought a monitor for it a few days ago.
The monitor comes on briefly then clicks into standby.
I've tried two different new monitors now, new ones too. And they both start up, then go into standby, with the amber light on, instead of green.

I'm anxious to see if the computer even works, though it turns on just fine and sounds great - but without the monitor, I've got no way of knowing, or even using it.

Please help me.

Kinda sounds like your video card isn't working properly, or at all. Whatever extras you installed into the machine, like modems or LAN cards, remove them. Then see if it will boot up.
Is it still doesn't show up on the monitor, then try a new video card and see if that works.

Sounds like the video is SNAFU to me. Or is the computer expecting a DVI monitor and you are using an analog one?

Do those monitors work on other computers?

Ask the vendor how he configured the video and what sort of monitor you need.
