without sounding phony, try to imagine that you are so glad this person called, like your long lost friend. if your face is smiling it will carry over to your voice..or speak slowly and softly as if you were in the nursery with sleeping babies.

That depends on what you mean by sweet.
If you mean a sweeter singing voice then you can try not using cold drinks, and not speaking loudly. Both of these have the effect of causing the voice to become more harsh.
I have been told that drinking honey also helps to sweeten the voice.
Also try talking softly, no yelling, shouting, screaming, or loud laughter as this places undue stress on the vocal cords. Eventually, your voice will sound as sweet as you wish.

Karan,
Ok I get you loud and clear.
When I was a child I had a deep booming voice, everyone in the the world thot it was so cute because I was a teenie blond with these huge blue eyes lol. but by 7th grade it wasn't cute( at least to me) anymore.
I began by singing alone in my room...as high as I could get. without straining. then I added putting my chin up and softening my throat muscles...like you do with your lips when you are getting that nice kiss (wink wink). then try whispering...upward like talking to a tree and use the voice like you were talking to a tiny baby. You can add your own stuff.
for added effect(when no one is looking lol) twinkle your eyes and smile brightly! good luck!

for you only (because everyone is different)
put your fingertips on your cheek right near your nose .... and if you can feel a little tiny vibration when you speak a few words, it will ease up the tension.... try this a couple of times a day, and keep saying little sentences to test it out .... if it does not feel a little "buzzy," just keep trying easier and easier ..... and do it just for yourself, not so someone can hear you .... keep it near to your self ....
... and do a little easy breathing .... make sure your breath is not held in .... that you breathe the way you did when you were a baby, with no worries in your head .... and let it all be ... just a couple of times a day, for a few minutes each time. (and pour yourself some tea!!).... if you breathe nicely, your voice will ease up ...but be very patient with yourself because it will take a little time for it to be sweeter ...ok?
Peace & Love

Don't try to be someone you are not. If you are kind and friendly your voice will naturally sound that way. Otherwise you are going to sound fake to those you are trying to impress.

Be happy with the voice you have. So many people can't speak & wish they could.

Be specific on what you want and mean or people are going to spout jokes at you all day long.
Jokes like "How about putting sugar in your mouth and spray it when you speak?"
