Wow. Please understand why people are being so hostile. It is not, as you might think, just the rant of atheists against religion. (I am not an atheist.) Nor is it just knee-jerk defense of the accepted ideas in science. (There are many questions by creationists here that are not greeted with such hostility.)
The FIRST step in your science education should be understanding why a question about the Big Bang is completely out of place in the Biology forum.
In other words, whoever taught you science hasn't even taught you the difference between Astrophysics and Biology.
And then to say that the Big Bang "is sayiny in smart alic terms that if you bang two stones together you will get a living object." Or that "The big bang theory is evolution."
Who on earth taught you that? The Big Bang says nothing of the sort. Nothing even close. Nor does the theory of evolution. And the two theories have NOTHING to do with each other. Nothing.
Before you just dismiss them all as "smart alic terms" don't you think you should actually understand a little bit more?
Isn't it painfully obvious from all these answers that you have rejected two theories (the Big Bang and evolution) without understanding the first thing about them?
Do you not see how you are sentencing yourself to a life of ignorance ... not because you reject these theories (that's your right) ... but because you reject things without thinking about them, or even understanding them AT ALL?
YOU should be furious at your teachers for making you look so utterly foolish.

You are very close to the mark when you say that the Big Bang is evolution. It is not a fact and it is not proven by empirical science since it concerns the past when no one was around to observe anything. The Big Bang is a cosmic evolutionairy view philoshopically convieniet to those who may not want to believe in God. The Bible does not allow for belief in a Big Bang and it's record of Creation since it shows a 6 day (equivalent solar days) creation. Explosions do not lead to organized systems, peroid.
It is interesting that some evolutionary views include matter coming from nothing (as in the Big Bang), life coming from non life and existing organisism and animals changing into different kinds which are all supernatural beliefs. So why is Creationism(which involes supernatural belief) or Intelligent Design (which is based on strictly obsevable science) but does point to a Intellegent Designer of some kind often rejected by some scientists, especially Darwinistic ones? It is because most Darwinists are atheists and there are also secularists who want nothing do do with a creator or even a hint to one. A federal appeals court in 2005 ruled that Athiesm was a religion based on atheists' life views. Since our public schools cannot make teachers legally teach creationism, because it has been made out to be the same as promoting a church or religion, Darwinism remains the main view taught eventhough it suffers from having real factual and observable evidence. That is why at the very least intelligent Design will probably be taught in the schools after political battles are overcome since it has real scientific backing unlike Darwinism but is often misrepresented. Teachers can legally on their own teach about creationism but many refrain from doing so because they will often run into opposition from their own schools or segments of the public especially those who advocate a naturalistic view devoid of God.
Just because some scientists tell you something doesn't mean it is true. There is a real crisis in the scientific world concerning integrity and factual evidence. Politics and agendas are common factors in reaching conclusions these days and real observable evidence is being left behind. Consider the sad fact that Al Gore is given an Acadamy Award for his so called "documentary" on global warming by the hollywood entertainment industry yet a United Nations scientific commitee produced a study that downplays the main global warming concepts. So, to really answer your question, people believe in the Big Bang because it is a philoshophical view that is favorable to many of the academia and major media which have a high concentration of athiesits and agnostics and which is also the climate in a lot of the universities and they are passing that down to the schools where it is the dominante view.

The big bang theory has nothing to do with banging or collision...
It just means in the beginning of universe, there was very intense radiation that created matter...thereafter, the universe expanded (and is still expanding today...don't think it will stop) which cooled down since radiation is more separated....
There is evidence of expanding universe, like galaxies that are further appear to move away faster...Also, the echo of the big band was detected some years ago...
Why people teach evolution and not belief in god...simply because evolution is an academic theory while god...it is religion. And there are many religions so they cannot teach a single religion in school as it may be unfair to students of other faith...
Similarly, the big bang theory is taught because it is an academic theory, it is to provide students the knowledge that such a theory exists...and for god, like I said, is religion and people pursue as they like
evolution and big bang are simply theories and ideas humans have came out to explain what is observed now...shouldn't be in conflict with religion, belief or god...

If everyone believed in the Same GOD and had the Same prinicple beliefes there would be no big bang theory but since different religions likes to put there own spin on creation people who don't believe in a GOD do this also so that is why you have the big bang theory and there is much more to it than just two rocks banging together i suggest you do just a tad bit of research on BLACKHOLES and you might find interesting stuff that some of it actually supports the bible given that you interpret it that way. AND basically that's it, it all breaks down to how YOU AS A HUMAN BEING interpret your world.

Wow, wow, wow... The big bang is was the beginning of the universe. The universe IS expanding, which (this and other FACTS) leads us to believe that the universe started from a single point of infinte density, AKA the singularity. When this burst into expansion, it was the big bang. There is actually mathematical evidence of this.
Christianity is ignorance. There is evidence that disproves MANY of the staples of the bible. I'm not talking about jesus, and noah, and all that. I'm talking about the earth being 6000 years old, and things like that. Christianity, and creationism hase theological, and should be taught in a theology class, evolution (which has NOTHING to do with the big bang) should be taught in a SCIENCE class, because it is scientific and based on facts and evidence.
I am a creationist, but do not believe in the bible word for word. You can't argue with facts.

Yes, I can see how Big Bang to you must seem like a fish and a dog producing a cat.
There is a huge gap in the Big Bang theory: the beginning. But the rest if very sustainable. We don't have to provide a beginning to have a working theory, but if there's another theory that works as well as Big Bang, yet provides a beginning, I'll take that one any day!
Sadly, the Biblical creation story is pretty much limited to this: God made it so. That's not so much a "How?"-explanation, rather a "Who?"-explanation. Which isn't really what we're looking for.

Well there is no real proof for god other than christians hard headed belief and the fact that it says it in a 2500 year old book.
And while i do believe in god i have always tried to see it from both sides perspective. School can have muslims, hindus, buddhists, and hell satanists for all i know. So telling a class there is a god isnt really fair. Just like christian parents shoving christianity down their kids throat. You need to let people and kids alike get what they believe from experience and some preaching. The most constructive person can be someone who feels like they have a balanced belief system of both the physical and spiritual world. Also evolution is pretty much proven. Plus who says evolution isnt how god made things. Nobody said it is why. There is some kind of force out there but that is for each person to discover themselves. Oh and you people are oximoranic yourselves to. You guys all salute scientists when they find evidence for christ or something but say there never really sure about anything when they find something against your beliefs. The truth is no scientist is for sure about anything whether its religious or not. And saying you hit two stones together and out comes a cat or suddenly man just decided to stop walking like an ape is a gross and one sided oversimplification. Im outy 5000.
I hope youve learned something from reading this.

That's not what the Big Bang theory is. That's not even close. It has nothing to do with smashing two things together to get something else.
The Big Bang theory has nothing at all to do with evolution, or the ideas of the origin of life. The Big Bang is astrophysics. Evolution is studied by biologists.
As to scientists studying evolution finding evidence that parts of the Bible are true, can you give examples? Use the edit functions on the question to mention more. Don't just say, "Oh, it's happened," but please provide evidence. I'd like to see it.
Do some reading below:

I'm sorry tigerbaby, but you're analogies are woefully off the mark. The Big Bang theory has very little to do with the theory of evolution.
Please read wider, and not just those things you find comfortable or that reinforce the views you already have. If you do, in five or ten years you may have a more realistic view of the world.

The big bang theory is one theory that rather neatly explains the 'why's of alot things we observe in the universe.
It doesn't mean there isn't a God and it has nothing to do with evolution. It's an idea of how the universe might have begun.
