could you imagine losing a $500 bill? i would be sick! its not practical. most people arent usually buying stuff that would consitute using a 500 bill. going to the grocery story and buy $35 worth of grocery then paying with a 500 bill wouldnt be logical. first the store probably doesnt care that much in there drawer at one time. plus it wouldnt be safe. if someone saw it. i think you would be more likely to be mugged.

Because there aren't many practical uses for the bill. If someone buys something that costs that much, now people will use credit or write a check. Do you want to carry that much cash on you?

If I recall correctly, there used to be one. However if memory serves they were phased out due to lack of use and practicality. Plus lots of high denomination bills were ordered stopped (circulating and printing) by Richard Nixon in order to curb organized crime.
