No, your comparing to VERY different institutions. And, we live in very different times - not perfect, but different.
The issue of gay marriage is much more akin to the old anti-miscegenation laws which most of the country had until the mid 1900s. The law fobid whites to marry non-whites. It was struck down as unconstitutional in 1967. Many of the objections to interraical marriage are the same as the objections to gay marriage. (ie, against religious beliefs, "unnatural", destructive to society...)

I would assume so based on two things:
The fight for slavery was posed as an issue of states' rights: The state cannot be told what rights they have to grant individuals. The rights of the state government are seen as the will of the people, disregarding the rights of those individual people. The same argument is used against gay marriage: you can't force the states to give rights to people they don't want to.
The other reason is that they are based on the same premise: Some people are subhuman and do not matter.

Actually, we DO still have slavery in this country. But it's the OTHER party that has kept it going strong.
Slavery as you understand it was a way that the "haves" could minimally maintain the "have-nots" by giving them enough food to live on and a little shack to live in, while making sure they could not get on their own two feet.
At least the plantation owners didn't pretend to be caring about or helping the blacks at the time - Jesse and Al and the entire Democrat party are doing this to minorities in this country and pretending to care about them!!
If somebody wanted to keep black America down, the best way to do it is to set up the welfare system and the quota systems that the Democrats have put in place. These systems encourage people to stay on welfare and take the hand-outs instead of demanding more of themselves - and the Democrat Party rewards Jesse and Al for leading all these people down this road.
When real black role models like Bill Cosby speak up about blacks needing to pull themselves up, they get called racist and uncle tom. My grandparents and my mother are from Mexico. My dad was born in Arizona. I was born in Indiana. It angers me when I see people manipulating blacks and hispanics by playing race cards - and actually KEEPING minorities down by doing it.
Quit listening to political "talking points" and look at reality. The Democrats promote slavery NOW.
BTW - Homosexuality is a sin and an abomination against God. Those pushing for "Gay Mariiage" are doing the devil's work. The bible tells us "woe to those who call good evil and evil good." Christians don't want for our country to blatantly turn it's back on God, so we are against homosexuals being given marriage status. Conservatives are against giving homosexual couples the tax, and other types of benefits due to married couples because a homosexual couple does not give the benefit to the country that a monogamous straight couple does - the family unit is the foundation of society - no matter what religion that society has. Yes, divorce is rampant. But that is not because marriage is a bad thing - it's because people have turned away from what it's supposed to be - and ADDING another evil to it will not fix it.

We wouldn't have Slavery (as it was); technological advances would have rendered slavery useless within fifteen to twenty years of abolition anyway. As a hypothetical, they'd be against slavery, based on them being against raising the minimum wage, universal healthcare, and wanting to put a wall on our borders.

Of course, as is proved by resistance to increase minimum wage unless give rich property owner (same as plantation owner) more tax free. Same party opposes labor union. Same party spies on citizen. Same party restricts right to sue and limit punitive damage.
Sad is that Lincoln would not recognize party that uses same name.

Please - Who signed the Defense of Marriage Act? Hint - It wasn't a Bush. Why don't very liberal states like New York or California have gay marriages and why is Massachusetts repealing the law?
Sorry, your problem is with the liberals who pat you on the back with one hand while kicking you in the butt with their boot. There is nothing any republican can do to prevent any liberal state from passing a gay marriage bill.
