Odds are that wyntre_2000's assessment is pretty much correct from what I can see - it sounds to me like your hard drive is failing.

I have to say that with the description you've given, but without actually being able to look at your computer, NOBODY who's certified to work on computers and right in the head can tell you with absolute certainty what's wrong with it.

As for what you should do, If you have experience working with hardware (ie you've installed RAM or a hard drive yourself before, or something like that), you might want to try installing a new hard drive, and see how that works.

If, however, you have never even seen the inside of a computer case, or if you have but have no clue what's what, please, talk to someone who has. Even small towns usually have a few computer repair shops, and any college town will have at least several techies who'll do just as good of a job for half the price or less.

If you purchased your PC brand new it should of came with system restore disk which you can just slap in, follow the first few prompts and off it goes restore your system back to factory.

Your scandisk issue sounds like your hard drive might be going bad. You can try HDD Regenerator (link is below).

If scandisk took that long, then I am 99.99% certain that your hard drive is toast.

Also, if your keyboard won't respond to F10 or F11 (or whatever) before windows starts, then you have a lot more problems going on.

You do a system restore right after the machine turns on, before Windows starts.
