Avent ISIS for occasional pumping or if baby doesn't nurse on both sides for some reason. Rent a Medulla if you will need it only a few months. If it rents for $40 & you needit 4 months = $160 If you will be pumping long enough to justify $250 buy the Medula Pump-in Style. I've done all three. The rental unit came in a big blue suitcase-looking thing, so I loved the Pump-in-Style looks like a regular black backpack ( do not buy one of these used was the advice a lactation nurse gave me!)

Depends on how much you wanna spend. My last pregnancy I had a Walmart pump $30. It quit working in the first month. This pump would have been fine if I was only pumping 2-3 times a week but I was pumping everyday. I have just ordered a Medula Pump In Style Advanced Breast Pump. It comes in either a shoulder strap bag or a backpack. Medula makes hospital grade pumps. It is $349 most places you try to get it but I found a web site called Hackley Healthcare Equipments where this pump is only $225.
This is everything it comes with.
Contents: bag, removable motor unit (in its own case); battery pak; insulated cooler carrier; double pumping kit with 4 collection containers and lids (2 solid and 2 2-piece lids); 2 personalFit breast shields; 2 container stands; 4 valve membranes; cool packs; manual piston/cylinder, CSF starter Pak; PureLan 100 sample; Disposable Bra Pad sample; instructions and breastfeeding information guide

Medela Pump in Style (original or advanced). I have the original. I was unable to breastfeed my son due to medical problems and if it wasn't for my Medela pump he would be formula fed. I pump about 5-6 times in a 24 hour period (that over 500 times since he was born in October) and I pump about 20-30 ounces a day. Each pump session takes me about 12 minutes.
You can also look into renting a hospital grade pump (which is also made by the medela company). Rental costs about $30 a month where I live. The medela original is $250, advanced is $320. And I'd recommend if you will be doing more pumping than breastfeeding to buy the additional 4 bottle storage set.
And go to target and babies r us websites and read the reviews there as well.

I tried both manual and electric. The manual pumps are cheap and good for travel or emergency use, but for frequent use, you should get an electric. I could pump nearly twice as much milk in half the time with an electric! Also, an electric pump is an easy way to get your milk supply up--just pump between feedings to encourage your body to produce more milk.
I liked the Medela Pump 'N Style. It's a big expense (around $300), but if you're planning to breastfeed long term, it's a good investment. (plus, you'll save that much on formula in just a few months!) If you are only planning to breastfeed for a few months, then you should call a medical supply company and ask about renting a hospital grade pump to save money. Also, WIC offices are supposed to have pumps to borrow if you qualify for WIC. I am not sure of the details, as I didn't qualify with my last child.
I do NOT suggest the battery powered or electric pumps sold in department stores for under $50. I tried several of them, as did some of my nursing friends, and they just weren't worth it. The manual medela worked better, and I got mine free at the hospital!
congratz on choosing to breastfeed--it has lots of health benefits for both you and your child. Good luck!

The best I have used is defenitely the Medela Pump in Style...it's awesome....u can empty both breasts in 20 minutes so great if you are going to pump at work. The most important advice though is don't buy it until you have succesfully mastered breastfeeding. A lot of women will sink $300 on this pump and then find out that breastfeeding did not work out for them. You can rent one or borrow one until you master the wonderful art of breastfeeding and THEN sink the cash into the pump....it is quite worth every penny at that point:-) Best of luck!!!!!

I used the Avent ISIS Breast Pump. It's a manual pump, but it works really well. Plus, you pump your milk directly into the Avent bottles. It's a little expensive, but well worth the investment.

Rent one from the hospital you go to. Mine worked sooo good! I can't remember the name of it, but it is really expensive to buy. like $4 or $500 so, skip that. I just rented it for a couple of months and it works just like the one they let you use in the hospital. Most hospitals offer a rental. Just call and ask. Most hospitals have a Lactation Consultant, just call and ask to speak to her.

The medela is the best one. If you don't pump a lot, just get the medela manual pump- it works really well.
