I feel the same way. Nobody looks down their nose at someone in a bar who is drinking alcohol. But, if you are a smoker you are the "scum of the earth, out to kill everyone around you..."
I am a smoker, too. I try to be courteous of non-smokers, but I don't need their reasons for not smoking shoved down my throat.
At least I don't drink and drive.

Smokers aren't discriminated against. Smoking is.

I imagine when you're not smoking, no one yells at you and tells you to leave the building. That means they're not discriminating against you--they are objecting to the smoke itself.

Smoke fouls the air and threatens others' health. Some smokers have a tendency to toss their butts anywhere, so it also contributes to enormous amounts of litter.

No one should be able to ruin the environment for someone else. That's not discrimination. It's common sense.

I smoke, no one seems to look down on me. I am trying to quit, simply because it is not healthy for me or anyone else. I personally have never smoked in a public place that don't allow smoking, it is out of respect for those around me. I have never liked to smell cigarette smoke while I am eating myself. It takes away the true taste of the food. There are pubs that allow smoking and I know a few people that only smoke when they are drinking. My brother and I both have smoking rooms in our homes because we prefer not to have the stench going all through our home. I smoke as I said but it really does stink dude!

I think what ever you do in the privacy of your home or bar is one thing. However people who do not smoke generally can smell it up to 10 times what you smell it. It isn't a smell that is relaxing. It isn't a smell that gives good memories. It isn't a smell that just goes away. You can smell it on your clothes. You can smell it in your hair. It turnes walls brown. No smoker I know cares where they throw their butts and that in itself stinks. It is just so hard to talk with someone who has just smoked. Smokers cannot smell it on themselves. My mother is a chain smoker and thanks to her I have the worst lung capacity and have problems breathing. I wish to god there were more strict laws against it because this is an addiction that we have made normal in our society. Smoke bothers me to the point I can smell if someone in front of my car is smoking with their window down! It isn't pleasant.

Smokers who smoke in public and blow that crap in our faces are the scum of the earth.
People want to smoke? Good, sit in their own cars and homes with the windows closed so OUR environment doesn't get polluted with all those carcinogens these smokers are releasing into the air.
~~~Smokers suck~~~~
People dont like to see and know other people are harming one another. The fact is smokers dont give the people that surround them the choice, if they want to inhale the smoke or not. People don't like not having choices.
You ask "WHY"?
There have been literally billions of dollars spent trying to regain the health lost to smoking. A filthy, presumptuous killer habit.
One that killed my mother with lung cancer.
Yes I hate it, and applaud those who have done something about stopping it.
I praise highly those who do something about thoughtless people who foul others air.
It's a shame insurance rates have been pushed so high by sick smokers.
Because it is said that secondhand smoke is a killer, but they forget to mention the other pollutions in the air we breath!
Did you care when you were blowing smoke in peoples faces before? Why should we care about you now?
because of the effects of second hand smoke and the simple fact that it stinks! if you want to kill off your organs, fine! just do it somewhere where someone doesnt have to smell that mess
