I currently have 128MB+512MB, but I want to upgrade my RAM to 1GB+512MB. But I'm not sure whether my computer can have that much RAM. How can I check?
Because I heard that some people try to put a lot of RAM but end up with the computer not able to read it. For example I read someone who try to make the RAM of his computer 512MB+512MB with two different types of brand of RAM and ended up with the computer only able to read one type. How can I prevent that from happening?
Also, how can I tell how many RAM my Graphics Card has? If I upgrade what do I need to do?
Thanks for all your wonderful answers.

Go to http://www.crucial.com and go through the memory wizard. It will ask you what kind of computer you have. Once you select it, it will tell you what memory you need and should tell you what the maximum capacity is.

Somewhere in the pile of papers and manuals you got, when you bought the computer, is the main manual, or the manual for the motherboard. That will tell you exactly what types of memory to use, and what sizes can be put in the slots.

If you already have one 512MB stick, you should be able to put an identical type in the other slot (for a total of 1 GB). 1GB is a decent amount of memory for any computer, especially a home computer.

Hi there

Check the documentation that came with your computer, this should tell you. If you have a fairly up to date system, you should be able to put quite a lot of RAM in. It may be pointless upgrading it too much though. Depends on what you would be doing with it.

Free version of Sandra will tell you the max memory you can support. Install it and run the basic diagnostics.

Spy-ware and virus free.

go to http://crucial.com, and let the computer SCANS your computer (instead you go through the step by step asking you like the above user said, that's a long way to do, but still get the same result).
