My husband and I have been ttc, we haven't been charting ovulation. My period has been skipping months since I stopped bc pills in Oct. I just got my period today 3-2. My question is, typically I will be ovulating around 12-17th? I know on average its around day 14, but can be different. Should I get ovulation predictor? Are they helpful?

An ovulation predictor helps b/c every woman is made differently, therefore we all ovulate at different times. Yes, there is an 'average' time when you will probably ovulated, but pin-pointing that time is difficult. Buying an ovulation predictor could help you pinpoint your exact day. If you had sex every day from the 10th day after your period began to the 16th day--then you should have it covered with or without the kit. Good luck and lots of babydust!!

Oh, and you might want to check out www.twoweekwait.com. It's a really cool site for those who are TTC.

my husband and i tried last month, i went to ivillage fertility planner (its free for the first 2 months and dont need a c/c), enrolled for free and used it. we got pregnant that month although we had a miscarriage 5 days later. i tested 10 days after ovulation and was pregnant, confirmed by the dr. so it works, i also used a fertility monitor for that month. I am 41 and was told it is normally harder to get pregnant as age increases. if you have a 30 day period they say you ovulate on day 15/16 however there is such a thing called floating ovulation where it could change from month to month. also depending on your age you may not drop an egg every month. the web site i told you to go to will tell you how you will know when you ovulate, i reccommend this, you evaluate your cervical mucus and it really does work. you can ask your husband to tell you what it feels like inside you when you make love (he will know the difference when your cervix is open, high and soft or closed, low and hard. when it is open you are getting ready to ovulate and he will be able to penetrate further. hopefully you will have no problem.
hope this helps and good luck

You definitey should get an ovulation predictor. Ovulation has very little to do with day 14 of your cycle, and actually happens between 10 and 16 days before your period begins, not 14 days after it begins. Using an ovulation predictor kit can tell you when your most fertile days are, helping you to maximize your chances at conception.

You could also chart things like basal body temperature, cervical mucous/position, as well as use and ovulation predictor kit. I do the first three and I find that it gets me by for knowing when I ovulate. OPKs work, I'm just too cheap lol. Read up on charting tips. I'll put a website here that you should check out.
Good luck on your ttc journey!!

We used the clear blue easy fertility monitor. It was a little expensive but worth it. We conceived at month 3 with our first little one and that was after being on birth control for 18 years (we stopped 3 months before). We conceived our next little one at month 1 (sadly, it ended in miscarriage). We're going to try again and you can be sure we'll be using the clear blue easy monitor. By the way, I'm 38 years old. Good luck to us both honey.
