Have no health insurance and something terrible happens to you like a major injury or cancer or something? How do you get treated? Or do you even get treated?

Does anyone here work in a hospital billing department or with social services and could tell me. It's something I worry about constantly as there have been times when I've had no insurance. What about dental emergencies?

I live in Texas, in case that matters.

Thanks a whole bunch!

yeah u can move to canada and get free health care but u would have to wait in line for literally years to get anything done. and once your number does come to see the doctor for the 'big' operation...he'll do a half azz job just like he does on EVERYONE else because he doesn't get any incentives for his work. its like soviet union...no matter how talented or educated u are....u pretty much make the same amount of money as everyone else.
anyways to answer your question....
you'll be in trouble if you don't have insurance....if its an emergency, they'll fix u up but then u will spend rest of life paying that one bill. so if you are over 35...u need to have an insurance. if you have a job it should be covered by them....if you are underage then ur are probably included in your parents insurance....if you are in a university then u are also covered by the school....if you are a private business owner then u are not covered but u will get little cheaper rates.
there are also numerous state, federal and private grants u can apply for in case u get stuck with a huge medical bill that u cannot afford.

You will get treatment but if the bill is not paid you will be sued and lose your assets. If your medical bills are so large or your income so small that you can not afford care, you probably qualify for medicaid. If you are not low income and don't want to risk losing all your assets, you can get major medical short term insurance if you are between jobs. It is inexpensive if you are young and healthy.

The only thing you can do when that happens is move to Canada.

You can prepare for this sort of thing by learning their dialect. Find a few Canadians in your area and invite them over for tea, a cold beer, or a quick bj. Take mental notes
