I got this laptop about a couple of months ago and it has 1 of ram and is a duo core processer.
I am new to computers , but I thought it was suppose to be fast!
I have cleaned out my registry, I have defragmented my hard drive, I have run spyware, I have run virus scan, I dont know what else?!
I have a wireless router set up, could it be that my router signal is coming to conflict with other routers?
It runs very fast at times, but sometimes, I want to throw the damn thing out in the street!!

Check what antispyware if any you are running - some are resource hogs. Also switch off windows indexing service on all your disks.

Crumbs yes it should be running fast but it depends on what applications you're running at the time. It can only be something to do with your router if there's only a problem with web-browsing.
1. However, this could also be down to your ISP so google their name and the word feedback.
2. If other applications are running slowly too then press ctrl+alt+delete and click on task manager. Check on processes and see which is using the most memory - is it something you recognise? If it is then could just be that it's a memory sapper.
3. It could also be your anti-virus software. Some anti-virus apps are very picky and will continually scan certain applications almost everytime you move the mouse in them! If there are any applications you use on a regular basis it's worth trying to set up an exception in your virus software so it doesn't scan those applications. However, a word of warning - make sure that doesn't include internet browsing applications!
4. Also, check your scheduling in your anti-virus and spyware applications. Sometimes they are automatically set to scan your PC daily at a certain time/next logon. This could explain why only sometimes it's slow - it really can slow things right down for it to be scanning all your deep system registry. Switch the scheduler off and run a scan regulary to suit you. Don't switch the anti-virus off itself though - you need it to catch viruses if they hit your machine.
5. If you're running Norton Internet Security then uninstall the whole lot - it's a disaster and really slows you down as well as fiddling with some of your settings! And do download AVG Free version and a decent spyware program from http://www.download.com/. Spybot Search and Destroy is pretty good as is Ad Aware by Lavasoft and Spyware Doctor's good too.
6. Are you running Window's Vista? If so, there could be a problem with that as there have been quite a lot of reported bugs as there always are with new platforms.
7. I'd advise you to go to the Microsoft website and download any updates that are available. http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us
8. Failing that, can you think of a time before now when the PC was working perfectly? If so then you can perform a System Restore to a previous date. It will keep all the work you've done such as saved documents, emails, pictures etc but will remove any applications installed after the selected date. This is a last resort as it will mean reinstalling some programmes but it could help and you can install the progs 1 at a time to see which is giving you the problems. Click Start, All Programmes, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore then follow the on-screen instructions and select the relevant date.
Right, that's all I can think of for now, let me know if you need more detail on any of it.
Good luck!!!

It is a decent spec so will need some more info to diagnose.
What make is it? What programs do you have running on it in the background? (right click start menu, click Task manager then the processes tab. Sort by Mem Usage and then check the performance tab).

shut down some unnecessary running programs, you can start it manually anyway if you need them. You can download REGEDIT and edit the list of programs that runs automatically when you start your PC, it is called boot-up list. The less the running programs the faster your PC will become, it this is not enough increase the DRAM size of your PC.

There is one possible simpler option - how full do you keep your hard drive - except when you are working on something you should keep its contents as small as possible. Although machines are much quicker these days hdds are bigger to but if you want real speed keep it light.

start menu> Run> type; MSCONFIG intht ebox and press enter. select start menu files and untick them all.
these activated programmes are on standby and they gobble up system resources... and you dont need them all turned on... its to allow faster acceess to programmes... like word or excel... if you dont mind waitimng the 2 seconds it takes to boot the application... turn em all off..
boot time should be less than 45 seconds...

defragmenting and viruses is not the only thing that makes your computer run slowly, you might be running too many programs on your system.
