Every month before my cycle starts my temp is 97.2 and around mid cycle my temp goes up to 97.6 then 98.3 and I'm trying to pinpoint exactly when ovulation takes place? Does anyone know if your temperature rises during ovulation or afterwards? Ive read it can take up to 2 days after ovulation for your temp to rise but since my rises twice afterwards Im a little unsure.

I was never able to pinpoint ovulation using the temperature method. Have you thought about using ovulation sticks? I believe them to be more accurate or at least easier to decipher.

The temp rise usually occurs after or during ovulation. Temping is a great way to CONFIRM ovulation, but it doesn't predict it. In order to predict ovulation, you need to be aware of your cervical fluid (and cervical position if you like) too. Ovulation is confirmed when you have 3 temps above the coverline (calculated as 1/10th of a degree above the highest of the previous 6 temps). There are various patterns to the thermal shift and each woman is unique. By the way, your temp can go up and down after ovulation (as long as it stays above the coverline) and can also keep rising for a time.

I highly recommend charting your fertility signs. Your chart can tell you when you are fertile, when you are not, when you are ovulating, when to expect your next period, and when to suspect pregnancy. Your chart can also tell you if there are issues delaying conception or causing difficulty w/ carrying a pregnancy and if there are serious issues which need a doc's attention.

Some good sources for charting your fertility signs: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software), The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility

I'd go by the first rise. That's likely your ovulation. Temp usually rises the day after ov. If it rises again you may be a person that just has a triphasic chart instead of a biphasic chart. Not a big deal.

as soon as you ovulate your body produces progesterone which makes your temp spike. so after you see your temp rise to 98.3 you will know you most likely ovulated the day before. pay attention to your cervical mucus too. after you ovulate it will start to dry up.
