Federer's going to run away with it again this year on the men's side. Nadal and Roddick won't get all that close.

The woman's side is up in the air. If Serena can commit, she WILL finish #1 (By commit, I mean play all 4 Slams and at least 4 Tier I's or Tier II's) That's a BIG if, though. She's already pulled out of as many tournaments as she's played this year. But if she can win the Australian Open, she can win Wimbledon and the US Open. Who knows.
A more reliable horse might be Justine Henin (no longer Hardenne) She's good on all surfaces, but remember that she was in the finals of all Grand Slams last year and that's a LOT of points to defend. She missed the Australian Open, which really hurts her chances. That's a pretty tough call.
I think it'll be whoever does better at this year's French Open: Amelie Mauresmo or Maria Sharapova. They both flamed out last year before they could have. If one of them gets a good result then that might be enough to carry them to #1.

Roger Federer should dominate at the end of the year and in the women's section its tough to say but most probably Mauresmo , Sharapova or Henin..
