When WW1 ended in 1918 the allies started a reparations committee and required Germany to repay the cost of the war. Germany did her best but it totally ruined the economy. By the time Hitler came to power the country was ready for anyone who could uplift it. And he did. I am old enough to have spoken with many Germans who lived through that time and they can tell you that Hitler did a lot of good work at first - rebuilding the infrastructure and putting people back to work.
I am not one to condone all the awful things that happened but I feel that many people, including those who answer here have only listened to the anti nazi propaganda that has been broadcast in this country for the past 60 years.
A more objective analysis is required. Hitler's problem was that his country was under the heel for a long time.
Part of the blame for this lies in the hands of the countries who imposed the requirement for reparations.
This lesson was well learned by the end of WW2 when General George Marshall started his plan (the Marshall plan) to help Germany and Japan recover. Without this aid those 2 countries would have gone solidly communist

Originally, you might not have thought of Hitler as such a terrible person. He wanted to raise his country out of poverty, much like a man us Americans consider one of our greatest Presidents ever, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. However, living in those conditions made Hitler fall mentally ill, which is most likely the cause for his rapid grasp for power. Remember, after WWI, the world was extremely harsh on Germany, when really they were only fighting because they had an alliance with Austria. As for his Anti-Semitism, his feelings were extreme, I will not deny that. But he had the feelings of many other Germans at the time. Hitler thought that the Jews who ran the art school he applied to when he was younger, were the reason he did not get in. Also, in a time where Germany was one of the poorest countries in the world, the upper class of Germany was actually the Jews. Hitler thought that they were polluting the German's, and with his mental illness, he began to hate Jews so much to try a genocide. I am not trying to defend Hitler here, but just so people can understand some of the other parts of his life, instead of just automatically marking him off as the worst person ever.

According to him, it was the Jews. According to everyone else, it was his ego.
Now, for a more serious answer. Young Adolf wanted to become an artist and was told that he should do architectural drawing instead. He got angry and joined in the war effort. He was exposed to Mustard Gas and was considered a war hero for it. After wards he got a job investigating subversive groups. When he looked into National Socialism he not only failed to report it, he became the seventh member. For that he was put in jail and while in captivity he wrote Mien Kampf (My Struggle). Between that book and his powerful speeches he rose in power. He used the starvation of his own people to give him the support he needed. He also said that the country was mistreated. He secretly started rebuilding the army, navy, and air force and created a movie called Triumph of the Will that purposely didn't include the military in it. After getting enough strength he started saying that they needed the Rhineland back. He was given it and then he said he needed more, and was given that too. Then he asked for more, and he was refused so he invaded Poland, France, etc... He insisted on knowing everything that was going on and was a control freak.
He was also a nut...
In all honesty, I prefer Napoleon to Hitler.

Well he was doing great things for Germany at first. Then he became Power Hungry- Thats normally how most people fall. When you get power you want MORE and MORE greedyness is never the way to go! and LMS-- Little Man Syndrome! Where he has to make it known that he has power because he is such a lil man.. But hey He was a coward in the end! Taking poision before shooting himself! Ahh well... Who really knows what he was thinking. Im sure he's getting his fame and glory in hell but we are still talking about him so Im sure he got what he wanted out of it. lil **** he was!

he was a person born of a low birth. was neither noble nor a person of honor. he never went to any military academy to study war and the thoughts of Germans really approving him as supreme commander is absurd.

he had some of the greatest military minds at his side, but when the war had no hope, they had no choice to turn on Hitler. (i.e. Rommel)

He had millions of man power at his disposal. But he murder them in the concentration camps.

the German square. that little black square under the nose is not really fashionable. they shouda stick with the German handle.

basically to sum it up, he has no honor, not a student of war, was not able to see past race and notice valuable people that could contribute to the war effort, and he was really ugly.

He assumed to know more than his Military Commanders and a good job too. As an analogy imagine a shop assisant directing a surgeon on a heart transplant.

I wouldn't call it by the name of a problem, but he wanted to have a country fll of pure breed germans,no jews or any other group of people, that could mar his nation. He thought that once he had that,he could not only rule the world but do it for one thousand years.Of course it didnt work out that way.
