Hey girls... I will be going to the doc tomorrow, however I wanted to see if any of you have experienced similar and have had a doc opinion on cause.
Every month I get my monthly reminder, however every 2nd month I experience 1 week of spotting prior to a "normal period".
Have any of you experienced this? We have been trying to get pregnant for 6 months, and every month disapointment.

Thanks :S

To add: I have been charting for 5 months. It appears generally I have a 27 day cycle. (Not counting the spotting as a start date for my period)

Hi...this is my 6 month TTC as well. I have a very similar problem as you. My Cycles have been ranging anywhere from 25-35 days and I start spotting on the 25 day regardless of when my actual period starts. I went to the doctor 2 months ago for a wellness visit and he did a vaginal ultrasound to check my ovaries along with a few blood tests to check my prolactin levels and thyroid. The blood tests came back fine, but the ultrasound showed that I had 3 cysts in one ovary and one larger cyst in the other. This would be normal except that both ovaries were producing a large cyst. When this happens your hormones get all out of whack. What the spotting is, is the uterus shedding a bit early in my case. Even if I did have a fertilized egg, the uterus lining isn't healthy enough for it to attach to. He is putting me on birth control to shrink the cysts and then next month we are starting a cycle of Clomid (Fertility Drugs). I don't know if this helps you at all....I just wanted to share my story with you because we do have some similarities. Good luck at your doctors office....The good thing is, is that you are having a period every month.

If there is a pattern to it, that could just be a normal occurrence for you which you are now noticing because you are paying more attention to it.

If you are having blood spotting, as in, a little red blood loss for several days before your full on period, every other month, I would speculate you are experiencing early pregnancy loss.
To be sure, you could stock up on the early pregnancy tests and test every other month a day or so before you normally get the intermittent bleeding. This should tell you if you are pregnant from trying the previous month and are losing the pregnancy. You can be pregnant and have a seemingly normal regular period, which is why you should test. Once you know, you can go to the doc to find out the reasons why.

It's hard to get a clean test sample when you are bleeding, so you really have to get in tune with your body cycle so you know when to test.

It can be a sign of a short luteal phase (time after ovulation and before the next period) or low progesterone or both. Both can lead to a delay in conception but more usually they prevent the baby from implanting (as w/ short luteal phase) or cause the endometrium to break down too soon (short LP or low progesterone). Short luteal phase and low progesterone can be treated at home w/o invasive testing or risky fertility meds.

A B-complex vitamin taken daily may normalize cycles and extend a short luteal phase. Natural progesterone creams can be used for low progesterone. However, you should definitely know your cycles before trying the progesterone. The B vits can be taken now, if you want.

I highly recommend charting your fertility signs. Your chart can tell you when you are fertile, when you are not, when you are ovulating, when to expect your next period, and when to suspect pregnancy. Your chart can also tell you if there are issues delaying conception or causing difficulty w/ carrying a pregnancy and if there are serious issues which need a doc's attention.

Some good sources for charting your fertility signs: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software), The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility
