Grant Fuhr had a teeny advantage over Emery...he was playing in front of what a lot of people think was one of the best teams EVER...plus, when you consider a lot of the games were focused on offence back then (it was a very different game in the 80's), you had a lot of games with scores like 9 - 5, or 8 - 6...other teams would score 5 goals and the Oilers would score more...I do think Emery is underrated, but not because he is black or because he plays for Ottawa...I would say he is the next Ron Hextall or Billy Smith...that is more his playing style!

NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!!!!......To actually witness what he did during the Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup years was phenomenal. You compared Ray Emery to one of the greatest goaltenders in NHL history. Ask this question after Emery wins a few Stanley Cups, the Vezina trophy, and several all-star appearances. Note, Grant Fuhr played in an era when starting goaltenders played almost every game. Ray Emery is a GOOD goaltender at best. If he were Grant Fuhr status, he'd be a starter for the Canadian Olympic team, as Fuhr was.

Yes they are both black. But that is where simularities end.

Fuhr was more skilled than Emery is . Emery is a good goalie, but never will he be on the level of Fuhr.

Race has nothing to do with his playing ability or underrating. He needs to improve his playing and his team has to improve.

No, you are compering them just because they are both black and goalies. Emery will never accomplish half what Grant Fuhr did in his carrier. He'll never win 1 Stanley Cup, let alone 5, and he will never be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He's not underrated, he's undergood.

I think it's because he sucks. Emery looked like garbage almost every time I've seen him play this year. Nobody cares that he's black, and the small market thing doesn't really matter, either. Everyone knew who Dominic Hasek was when he played for small market Buffalo. Why? Because the man is a true superstar. Emery is a loudmouth piece of mediocrity; sorry (actually, no, I'm really not sorry. The Senators deserve what they get.)

Nope, not yet. He has spunk and is a decent goalie but comparing him to Fuhr before he's won one Cup is premature. Grant has 4 rings doesn't he? He was also considered in the same light as Roy and Brodeur as some of the top money goalies of all time. Ask me again in 2 or 3 years.

I also agree that he is underrated. But def. not in the same class as Grant Fuhr.

I think it's because he plays for Ottawa, which has not performed well in the playoffs... Some attribute this to a lack of toughness or heart, but anyway you slice it, it's rare you see a team so good on paper, do well in the regular season, and not be able to perform at the level they should at come playoff time...

Hey, look at the bright side...

He's better than Red-Light Raycroft...

No, he'd stink if he was white and played for a large market team as well. He is overrated, and it has to do with the fact he lacks the fundamental ability to position himself properly. He also doesn't move as well as it may seem. His motion is almost choppy, as if he is unsure about his move.

Is that why you said he would be the next "Grant Fuhr", simply because of his race?
