The lease agreement on my house us up at the end of April. My landlord contacted me yesterday and said that they wanted to start showing the house to people at the beginning of April.I do not want them to do this. They are just trying to get a early start on trying to sell there house while I am still in there. Do they have the right to do that or can I tell them no?

They can't do "whatever they please".

The property owner assigned the right of unlimited access to you when they rented the property to you. It may be "their" house in title, but the majority of the access rights are yours.

The landlord retains the right of access for emergencies and repairs, but all other access rights are yours unless your lease says otherwise. That means that in any instance other than a true emergency or for repairs, only you and you alone gets to decide who comes in and when.

Look at your lease. If it says they have the right to show it before your lease is up, then you agreed to do this and must allow it.

If your lease does not give them this right, then you can say "no" and file trespassing charges against them if they come in anyway.

Not in Texas. Look at this on your lease, it will say so specifically. In Texas, there may be a small fee for backing out of showings.

"Boston" above says that is what the 30 day period is for, marketing the property, this is only partially true, but this done not mean they can show it without your permission. And keep lawyers out of it, sheesh. He's gonna want $500 to look at your lease and make a phone call, you can do this yourself.

Im almost positive that they cant just put up a lockbox and let people enter w/o your permission. If they say so, they are probably lying. If they do that, tell them you will keep the place smelly and trashed, lol.

Just kidding. They can't do it, it is your choice.

I`m in Quebec so I can only tell you how it is here. Check your lease it should tell you there. He has the right to show the house but has to make an appointment with you and give 24 hrs. notice.

Your landlord is not allowed in your house without getting your permission or without giving you notice, unless it's for repairs.

Your landlord can only come into your home at times that have been agreed on your tenancy agreement, or by giving reasonable notice.

There are special rules if your landlord needs to come in to do repairs or to inspect the condition of the property. They or someone acting on their behalf must give you at least 24 hours notice in writing that they intend to come round.

If you do not agree to having work done in the property, your landlord can go to court to ask the sheriff to grant a court order telling you to let them in.

If your landlord comes into your home without permission, this may constitute harassment.

No, unless this is written in your lease. You have the right to refuse to let the landlord in unless there is an emergency or he/she has made an appointment to come in.

That is why there is a 30-day notice...so that the LL can use that time to market the property. He sounds a like reasonable person since he called you to let you know....just work out appropraite showing days/times with him.....

They just have you give you notice..thats all. He has every right to show the house..its his house.
