If there were three things in history (before 1900) that you could change/abolish/modify/add, what would they be and why?

For me, it would be the Indian Removal Act, slavery, and...hm. I need to think about that last one.

Now I know some of you willsay it will change the entire effect of history ( i DO know that, some of us aren't idiots) but I mean if it didn't.

Thanks Old guy, I didn't think about that. Thanks for setting me straight. Hm. Okay, let me rephrase my question.

If you could modify/abolish/add any event before 1900, why would you do it, and how do you think it'll change life today?

I'd kill Cortez in Mexico to thwart the Spanish Conquest (and subsequent 80 million deaths),

Convince Charles Martel to surrender at Tours (a Muslim Europe would have hastened the Renaissance by 700 years),

And give Jesus a highlighter to cut to the good parts of the Old and New Testaments. (This might also require a pen and some Wite-Out, since I imagine Adam ate that damn apple.)

You want to change history, but still have the present you have today?

I would have thought the idea would be to change history for the betterment of the present.

If it didn't change the present what is the point of thinking how to change history. Considering our missteps on the path we have chosen to follow guides us in choosing the way we should go in the future.

Choosing a different path in the past, should at least come with a brighter present otherwise it is an exercise in self abuse.

George Santayana:

Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

George Bernard Shaw:

We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future.
