the RAM is for pc desktop .. but i dont know how to determine what kind of ram i need

Go to www.crucial.com and find out what type of RAM you need and the cost. Should be around 50 depending on the type.

RAM needs to be compatible with whatever you've already got. Go to www.crucial.com for a rundown of your system and recommendations about RAM. You don't need to buy it from them.

I presume you want to know the rate for 512MB RAM. My suggestions is go to EBAY website and checkout for prices (based on your country). You will have a fair idea of the prices, then go to electronics market in your city and do the purchase or you can even buy it directly from EBAY.
