This has been bothering me a lot. Discrimination is wrong, period. yet I see so many people who claim they're against discrimination, but they themselves discriminate & are proud of it. Some people cheer them on. & society in general perpetuates it. Why?

Example1: Feminism. I've seen and met so many feminists who say they're against discrimination. They're against sexism, gender discrimination, even discrimination of sexuality. However, many times I see these same feminists discriminate against men & cheered for it.

Example2: Racism. Many blacks are against it because of how white people treated them, & at times still treat them. Yet many of the same blacks are then not only racists against white people, but against other blacks of lighter or darker skin colors as well.

Why would one who hates discrimination, discriminate? Is it right or wrong? If it's wrong, why does society perpetuate it?

BTW, I'm a black guy who is for equality & against any form of discrimination.

People who discriminate but also claim to fight against discrimination are hypocrites. The feminists and blacks who do this only worsen their group's image. It's wrong, and some members of the society perpetuate it because they don't know any better. They want to be overly nice to people who have been discrimintated against because of what they've been through, but in doing so, they are very reluctant to see both the good and bad in them.

I don't think the word allowed is appropriate since I think that certain individuals (you can't group everyone in this way as this leads to stereotyping) feel that they are above the boundaries of decency when it comes to discrimination. When you point out their actions they will come up with all kinds of reasons to excuse their behaviour, none by the way that will be justified. I agree that this is extremely hypocritical and I think that everyone carries around a certain amount of prejudices whether they realize it or not. My favourites are the people when queried about their comments always say, "not me some of my best friends are ______. (Women, Asian, old, disabled, black, Jewish etc.) Or the people that always can name one person from a race or group who has supposedly done one of these stereotypical things. The other problem is tokenism where one member of a group is put into a valued position to show others in the disenfranchised group that there is not discrimination and this is all their imagination. Those who truly are against oppression of others do a great deal of self examination to try and find out what ideas they may have acquired over the years from different sources that indicate where these issues may lie. This is the only way to end discrimination and bigotry.
Thanks for an excellent thought provoking question. More people need to examine their motives and why it is the indiscriminately hate others.

We as humans tend to generalize all types of information. This is a very useful mechanism that allows us to accomplish many things. Unfortunately it also is the basis for discrimination in that we assume/generalize that all X type of humans are all the same and therefore should be treated differently.

We can and should consciously work against any form of discrimination in ourselves and in others.

hi (((Eartha))) Is making a sweeping generalization discriminatory? i don't think of so. Inflammatory sure. Counterproductive, sure, even yet it fairly is not discriminatory. Discrimination may well be to evade a muslim getting a job even however they have been the wonderful qualified. I could say that from my time here in R&S I surely have found out to be extra distrustful of human beings in faith than earlier. I do, even however, have 2 acquaintances here in NZ that are muslim. it is especially unusual as there are very very few followers of Islam in my united states. I could say that that couple are 2 of the main beautiful people who it fairly is been my privilege to comprehend, yet I nevertheless despise their faith. i ask your self how long our friendship will final as quickly as we've a frank talk approximately our non secular perspectives? If mainstream Islam have been to be slightly extra self severe, then i might reasonable my perspectives, however the debacle over the cutting-edge each and every physique Draw Muhammad Day journey shows Islam in unfavorable gentle: risky, divisive, parochial interior the severe and unable to tolerate valid criticism. the comparable applies to Zionism and fundamentalist Christian theory - for the checklist. You made the component that there is not any distinction between making a racial slur and making a slur against Islam. I disagree. One won't be able to help the colour of the exterior wherein one is born, yet with actual looking preparation and the applying of strategies potential, you may substitute one's non secular and social perspectives. no rely in case you will is up for debate. the undertaking lies with Islamic clerics' intolerance in the direction of any attitude different than their own (to wit, Pakistan's censorship of fb, the sanctioned dying threats against Salman Rushdie...). This makes that talk impossible on a super scale. Am I conflating Islamic management with all followers of Allah? probably, yet there are center values interior the religion that carry genuine in any different case it does not be a helpful faith. The center values of all helpful religions have a factor of belligerence in the direction of competing faiths. until religions of all stripes tone themselves down slightly, i'm going to proceed to hate faith, yet like the non secular. i'll additionally proceed to make generalist statements approximately faith because of the fact there fairly is not any opposite direction to attack the subject concerns.

good on you like your question. well i am a white girl. i agree, so often people say for example, "policeman" when they arent thinking, but could be meaning a policewoman, and then some idiot will say "oh thats sexist" but it isnt neccesseraly, is it?

sometimes i think people take anti- racism/sexism etc too far, and actually be racist/sexist to the other race/sex if you get my idea!

e.g the shilpa shetty affair on big brother!!! people actually feel sorry for jade goody and her mum, and for that jo girl!! its ridiculous - they were racist to her and just becuase they are like, oh, i didnt mean to be, im not racist etc, people actually feel sorry for them!!!

also, like women treating a man bad because the women are so desperate for equality. which is wrong, becuase i think the world is changing so that actually the "baddie" is made out to be the "goodie".

i dont know if that helps, im not a very good explainer. x

Hypocrisy; or they forget that they are, in fact, being prejudiced themselves because they feel so strongly about the issue. They need to be a bit more balanced.

people are so focused on their own rise in society that they don't think about how they are getting there or what their own belief system includes. It's easier to blame others than to look within.
