My 10 month old constantly pushes herself back really hard. I have to always put a pillow behind her. I haven't seen babies do that, has anyone? She does it suddenly and in a really hard way. I just wondered if anyone else had this?

My son does the same thing

1 out of 4 girls do it and 3 out of 4 boys will do it. they do it for attention but will never do it hard enough to hurt themselves

Ive seen all kinds of babies do this. My brother did it.

Its just part of their development.

He also would sit and bang his head against walls when he was a toddler.

It passes. He's a healthy strapping teenager now. Graduating at 16. Not a thing wrong with him.

As long as she's on something soft, just let her push herself down. She'll figure out after a while that its not the thing she's trying to do. Its possible she wants to move, but doesnt know how.

My daughter always pushed herself back. I was always watching her with that. On the bed it didnt matter to much because she would fall back on a soft mattress. It is just something she thought was fun to do

I don't know how many times I almost pulled a 'Brittany Spears'
and almost dropped my baby, because she threw herself backwards. Poor Brit. It's a common thing in babys. Just make
sure you keep your hand on her back while holding her.

My 6 month old daughter does this too, especially when I hold her on my lap, sometimes she slams herself so hard it hurts my chest! I refer that as parental abuse LOL

Lot's of babies do that, it's pretty common, especially in "active" babies. I wouldn't worry about it :-)

my kids both have "thrown" themselves backward, normally its a game they like the feeling and they like the fact that they can do it.
babies like anything they can do, when they find they can control a certain part of the body they are thrilled.
however if your child is not enjoying it or is acting scared or startled when this action happens then you need to see a dr. because they are not controlling it.
hope this helps
