I have an acer laptop, that uses this program called Empowering Technology, it has all the settings for my computer, like the sound and so on, they dont give you any cd when u buy the laptop, will i lose this if i install the new windows vista over the xp home.

more than likely. I mean, if you UPGRADED from xp to vista, without clean installing, then that mite save the settings. but not 100% sure. sorry

I would suggest NOT installing Vista either way. for two reasons. Chances are, your laptop does not meet the requirements for chip speed and memory. And even if it does, unless you are an IT guy, you need to wait a year or so. Vista is FULL of bugs, and requires extensive computer knowledge to get up and running. Wait a while, let Microsoft fix the bugs, patch the holes, and make it more user friendly.

if you install vista over your old windows yes you will lose everything you have to install vista without formating
