We cannot prevent global warming, it is in large part a natural phenomenon that has occurred in cycles over hundreds of thousands of years. Global warming will happen, no matter what we do. However, and this is a big HOWEVER, we can do things to lessen the global warming intensity and rate of onset that are due to pollutants mankind has put into the air. Here is a list of some "small things" we can do:

==Stop using petro fuels (gasoline, Diesel, aviation fuel...)
==Stop using dirty coal (lignite and bituminous) without exhaust filters
==Stop destroying the rain forests that remove CO2 from the air
==Start using alternative, renewable energy sources (hydrogen, ethanol, wind, solar, tidal...)
==Start using clean coal (anthracite) and exhaust filters
==Start providing sanctions and incentives to stop razing the rain forests

To this end, the "small things" you can do personally are:

==Use fluorescent lamps that burn less energy per lumen
==Use "green" energy saver appliances only
==Ensure your house is fully insulated
==Use non-petro and non-coal energy to heat and provide electricity to your house
==Drive hybrid, fuel efficient cars and car pool
==Plan shopping trips to minimize car driving time
==Be politically active to stop rain forest devastation
==Be politically active to speed up alternative fuel development

Excellent question getting at the grass roots of the issue.

Anything you do to conserve resources could help try the real small things.

Wear a sweater and turn down the thermostat.
Switch to florescent lighting and turn them off when not in use. Insulate your dwelling better.
Plan you trip to accomplish multiple tasks on a single trip.
Make sure your tires are properly inflated.
Remove any unnecessary weight from your vehicle.

I have been doing a research project for my school and i have found many ways to prevent global warming.

If you can u can start with you house by recycling items such as aluminum cans or throwing out trash in your lawn (if you have one).

You can also ride in a bus everyday to reduce gasses to form in the air.

Electricity plants emit smoke that affects the ozone...therefore another thing you can do is turn off the lights when you are not using them, tv, radio, ect.
