I lost my baby on Feb. 19th. It was a sporatic miscarriage, one day baby is fine, (with a little of bleeding) the next day, my water broke and baby died. I decided to wait and let nature take its course.. well all the remains didn't come out.. so now I am going to have a D&C this coming up Monday (march 5th, which is also my wedding anniversary).. I am so scared of it! I don't want it to hurt anything or hurt my chances of getting pregnant. I want to try again right after my first period... Anyone have any good or bad experiences with the D&C.. please help.

also, how long did it take you to concieve again after the D&C?

I am sorry for your loss. I had a d&c in Jan of 2005.We had a missed miscarriage at 7 weeks, but didn't discover it until I was 11w3d. The d&c was the best option for me because I knew that everything would be cleaned out, and not have a scary trip to the er. We were able to ttc again after the first af. I bled for 3-4 weeks (but have heard that wasn't normal) most have a period like flow. We conceived 4 cycles after the miscarriage and now have a happy and healthy 11 month old.

Try going to WebMd.com There are discussion boards for folks going through miscarriage and ttc after loss. These helped me so much and the ladies there were more than willing to share their experiences.

Most of all give yourself permission to grieve. It's healthy, and will give you the strength to try again.

Don't be afraid of the D&C. It's a fairly routine procedure you will sleep through. You'll cramp some, about like a bad period but they will give you something to take home for that. It can actually help you get pregnant because your uterus will be very clean and clear for a good attachement. I'm terribly sorry you lost your baby. I've had that happen and you feel so empty, don't you. I had several miscarraiges but also three babies. If you have more than one loss I would ask to be tested for Celiac Disease. It's a genetic illness and it causes miscarraiges, underweight babies and full term dead babies-all from lack of nutrition to the mother. I've found that I had it all these years and so does my daughter who lost babies born underweight. Recent studies show that 1 in 133 people in the US have it so it is very common. It is treated by you not eating anything with wheat, rye and barley gluten in the flour. Well worth giving up a slice of bread or pizza to have a live baby. I know you will agree after what you are going through. It might be something you even want to check out before you try again if you have any symptoms. My symptoms weren't diagnosed until later in life. There is a lot of stuff about it online. Good Luck and I'll be praying you have a baby very soon.

I've got to be honost, I never went through that. I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I do, however, have a friend that had a D&C back in December. And she's had to go back a couple times for more scrapings. She said that the D&C hurt (sorry) but that the scrapings after didn't. The Dr.(or nurse?) that did her D&C wasn't her regular Dr. though and wasn't very considerate while doing the procedure. The people that did the later scrapings were much better. She's still not regularly ovulating again (she's on Maca know to help) but the Dr. said that it hsouldn't hurt her chances of concieving. So basically, it probably will be a bit painful, but you should be able to concieve again. Good luck! and I'm so sorry this happend to you.

I had a miscarriage and subsequent D & C on Monday (2/26). My baby (had there been a baby) would have been 10 weeks. I only had an empty fetal sac--no baby inside. I was not prepared for the pain involved but strongly feel that my physical pain is linked to my poor emotional health. I feel a GREAT sadness in losing this pregnancy (empty fetal sac or not) and I'm sure that's playing into my pain.

They'll give you a prescription for pain---take it. They say the pain is like menstral cramps but that wasn't the case for me. I feel a pinching and pulling. For me it feels like someone has a very tight belt around my waist and they keep pulling it tighter. That doesn't mean your experience will be the same, I'm just telling you my story. Darvocet does seem to take the edge off, so does a heating pad. Good luck honey.

I had one and ended up pregnant again 3 months later with another miscarriage. It just depends on your body. You are extremely fertile afterwards. Most doctors recommend that you wait at least 1-3 months before trying again. Be sure to give your body time to heal to make sure everything is okay. It's not a big deal, but the grieving is the biggest part. Check out this site www.ispokewithmychild.com.

Sorry for your loss!!!

I had a d&c to remove a blighted ovum. They put you under so you don't feel a thing. All I felt afterwards was some cramping...maybe a little worse than period cramps. A d&c won't hurt your chances of conceiving. MY Dr told me that it is actually easier to conceive after a d&c because the d&c has cleaned out all teh old tissue from the uterus, and makes it a fresh host for another pergnancy. My Dr also told me that I had to wait one period cycle before trying again, and that I would be pregnant within 3 months, and I was.
